A Choral Masterclass-Workshop open to singers of all abilities, under the guidance of well-known maestro Gavin Carr, with young professional soloists, culminating in a performance run-through with piano accompaniment before a live audience. This weekend features a unique format, in which chorus participants experience first-hand the development of not only their own interpretation of this magnificent work, but witness the young soloists working in masterclass format with the hugely experienced Gavin Carr. A Masterclass-Workshop for all singers
We Invite singers from across the country to explore A Child of Our Time in this unique and enthralling masterclass-workshop format. In 1938 Tippett was deeply affected by news from Germany and responded to the event known as Kristallnacht, often regarded as the beginning of the Holocaust, by writing A Child of Our Time, in which he links this event to a meditation of the nature of human evil, and the suffering of all oppressed peoples. The intensity of the piece is heightened by his celebrated use of African-American Spirituals at the end of each section. This is a rare opportunity to delve deeply into the meaning of this work and explore it in a friendly, stimulating, relaxed and welcoming environment.
The weekend workshop takes place in the Roper Theatre, the splendid and comfortable new music facility at the West Wing, Hayesfield School, Bath BA2 3LA.Refreshments are provided throughout the weekend, but bring you own lunch.
