Priority High leverage Actions

• Target Birth Registrars and educate on the benefits (G1)• Data entry through clearinghouse / billing data (TISWG)• Approach large physician groups first (large = 25+ pediatricians) (G2)• Physician and/or administrative champion to see implementation through (G2); enlist

physician champions to influence peers (TISWG)• Get school nurses to add immunization data (G1)• Commitment to educate within organized medical roundtables/forums, etc. (G3)• Grassroots campaign to get volunteers to do data entry; such as RSVP (G3)• Train the physicians staff (G2)• Get health plans to report activities (with incentives if needed) (G1)• Educate providers to encourage “ownership and involvement” (TISWG)• Hands-on training for those not using program may increase participation (G3)• Give TWICES to providers that don’t have other access to systems that feed

Texans Speak Out, Key Recommendations

• To improve immunization information systems, we should:– Ease the burden of data entry for clinics by adopting HL7

standards to link with electronic interfaces to existing software packages

– Improve data quality– Make data available to health care providers in a more timely

manner– Balance individual rights to privacy and access to information– Allow adults to maintain their immunization records in ImmTrac– Make immunization data accessible inside and outside Texas– Create financial incentives for full participation in immunization

information systems
