Academy Instructor Do’s and Don’ts

• Do not teach the CCNA curriculum in less than six months.• Do allow and encourage students to use hands on activities to

enhance learning and understanding of the curriculum.• Never distribute CDs of the curriculum.• Do have equipment for student use.• Do review CNAMS announcements on a regular basis.• Do participate in ongoing education opportunities.• Do renew Smartnet agreements. • Do use and review assessment and satisfaction data.• Do communicate with other academies to share best practices

Original

• 2514, 2501 routers and 19xx switches. • No longer available for purchase• However this is still a great value bundle• Will support students through semester 1 to 4• Can be used for CCNP work• No need to upgrade




Original

• Any issues with labs in the future where this bundle is not able to support the lab

- then the lab will be simulated in Flash.




Standard

• 1721 routers and 2950 switches• This is the ongoing recommended bundle

for all academies• It is future proofed in that it will allow

trunking of vlans and uses 2950 switches• This will be the bundle that labs are based

upon in the future




RA Donated - Standard

• Typically 26xx routers and 29xx switches. • Equivalent to standard bundle – or better• May include extra interfaces• Will support students through semester 1 to 4• Can be used for CCNP work• No need to upgrade




Premium

• 2621, 2620 routers and 2950 switches• Ideal for Academies that plan to run CCNP• The most flexible, rack mountable, bundle• But

Twice the price of the standard will not be appropriate to most academies




Economy

• 1721, 806 routers and a 29xx switch• bundle is a stripped down standard bundle• 806 ethernet only router, and only one switch• Only suitable for small teaching groups (up to 10

students)those academies who will never be able to afford the standard bundle – soon to be deleted




New Information

• 806 Global deal 1 per instructor10 per academy 1 per student

• Adtran Atlas 550 ISDN S/T and E1 option




New CCNA v3 Bundles

• 6 Routers and 3 Switches• Typically an upgrade of a 1721 and a 2950• At least one router needs to be able to

trunk VLANs

CCNP

• Currently 100+ CCNP locals in EMEA in 32 Countries

• Significant Investment by both Cisco and the Academy

• The program is ideally taught over a two year undergraduate program, and must taught in no less that 28 weeks of study.




To be a CCNP Local

• 1. Must have a CCAI on staff and have ability to start teaching students during the next academic year.

• 2. Be able to purchase either the standard or the economy CCNP lab bundle

• (standard bundle will support up to 16 students, the economy up to 9 students) see attachment for equipment details.

• 3. Be an institution that normally teaches at the CCNP level. (eg Undergraduate networking or engineering)

• 4. Be able to demonstrate a teaching team able to support students throughout their study.




CCNP Instructor Training

• Release and support two CCAI instructors for 10 days training for each semester (a total of 40 days of training) in Birmingham, Technology Innovation Centre (TIC), Cisco EMEA CCNP training centre.

• Currently the fee for the use of facilities is £800 (€ 1300) per instructor per semester, this is charged directly by the TIC to your academy.
