Relocation of the existing Holy Family Hospital Pediatrics satellite into a
new medical o! ce building. The updated licensed practice is comprised of
regular and sick child waiting rooms, 13 examination and treatment rooms,
and required ancillary spaces. Security and information technology located
on-site links the practice back to Holy Family Hospital. The space is enlivened
by a bright and varied color palette which also serves to orient patients and
sta" in the practice.
Steward Helath Care corporate standards provided the basis for the design
and are apparent in the completed project, even as modi# ed to meet the
developer’s budget criteria.

Kent Hospital is the second largest hospital in Rhode Island. A new two story
medical o! ce building, with a basement of building support services, was
developed to meet the needs of its growing patient population.
The core and shell building was designed to meet LEED Silver quali# cations.
To reduce energy usage, the roo# ng is white TPO, low-use water equipment
and changes in landscaping reduce water demand. Highly e! cient air
handling equipment was installed for cooling and heating.

This study for the Steward Health Care System and Holy Family Hospital
was used to generate comparative costing for a variety of upgrade options
for the existing unused Transitional Care Unit (TCU). The base program
modi# ed the existing rooms from semi-private to private; and for upgrades
to meet current regulatory standards for # nishes, number of handwash sinks,
etc. Design options ranged from the least expensive cosmetic upgrade of
theexamination and support rooms, to the providsion of more extensive wall
and ceiling treatments, as well as the inclusion of patient showers in each
room. The proposed upgrades each recognized constraints presented by
the existing headwall con# gurations and locations of headwall equipment.
Required reworking of existing mechanical, electricdfal and lighting systems
was studie

The Lobby and Reception Area were upgraded as part of the re-branding of
Morton Hospital as a Steward Health Care facility. Approximately 3500 SF
were recon# gured and renovated as part of the project. The existing exterior
covered entrance was enclosed to provide a larger heated vestibule, and
the existing canopy was enlarged and provided with new signage and # nish
to align with Steward standards. The existing patient drop-o" drive was
recon# gured, and additional landscaping provided.
Inside, a new larger reception desk was located closer to incoming tra! c;
and it’s presence was highlighted with accent lighting and large glass panel
wall feature. Finish upgrades were carried throughout the Reception area
, into the adjacent elevator Lobby as well as a new Café. Finishes included
porcelain pavers, extensive ceiling recon# guration metal ceiling acoustical
and radiant panels, wood look ceiling feature and natural wood and porcelain
tile accent wall. The project involved extensive renovation of lighting in
addition to the mechanical and sprinkler systems.

Addition to a manor house originally built as a summer “cottage” on the
Endicott Campus. Although the hall was being used for classrooms and
conferences, it was not large enough to accommodate large functions. The
size of the ballroom was doubled and the interior completely renovated
without compromising the building’s classical fabric. Tupper Hall also serves
as a focal point for Endicott’s graduate studies programs.
The conservatory is topped by an octagonal lantern clerestory. Classical
details such as French doors, crown and dentil molding, acanthus leaf
brackets and arching transoms, create the illusion that the conservatory was
original to the home.

Architectural cues were taken from historic context and original campus
buildings built in the late 1800s. Uses Georgian vernacular, modi# ed Flemish
bond, stylized quoins, and stone trim,
A grassy promenade was created at the front of the building. Inside, a grand
interior staircase opens up to a skylight bringing light to each % oor. The hall
was designed in three wings using suite-style “pods” organized by study
themes or majors. A wide variety of shared spaces are woven into the plan,
o" ering a range of options for group study, as well as formal and informal
social activities. The ground % oor also includes spaces for faculty o! ces and
classrooms.

Focusing on creating safe, therapeutic and reassuring environments, a
new 142,000 square foot, state-of-the-art treatment center was designed
as a village setting. Pitched-roof housing was linked to recreation centers,
education buildings, health centers and other supporting facilities.
Feature spaces include a “treatment mall” where patients can attend art
classes, visit a hair salon, learn on computers, or work in a greenhouse.
Ninety-two private patient bedrooms are divided into small, quiet units.
Numerous open, yet secure courtyards provide patient outdoor access.

New orientation center at an historic site in
Portsmouth, NH. The structure is located on top
of the foundation of a 20th century workshop,
thus reducing the impact on sensitive archeologic
treasures suspected to exist underground. Further
accomodation was made by modifying the existing
grade, elevating the structure, and using insulated
spread footings that virtually eliminate any damage to
subterranean cultural treasures. The building reflects
the merchantile structures that are documented to
have existed on the site in previous centuries.
