Mica Todorović (1900 – 1981) attended art school and academy in Zagreb as the only woman in class. In 1954 she had her first one-man exhibition in Belgrade. Mica Todorovic is most closely related to the development of the BiH art: she worked closely with the association “Collegium Artisticum” (1939-1941), is one of the ten founding members of ULUBiH and one of the first professors at the newly founded School of Applied Arts in Sarajevo. The collection of Mica Todorovic's works is exceptionally big (300 paintings and over 100 drawings) and it represents a refined chronicle of her memories, full of color, serenity and beauty. 'Terrace' is one of the works in which Mica's starting point was an abstract pattern which she built with drawing and colour, wide lines and underlined gesture where she finally searched for a concrete subject. It represents a dispersal of artistic elements and incoherence of colour in one whole, registering the state of work in progress, as it is a search for form. In this type of her drawings architecture is in the background; hatched, dissected lines and dots do not have a role in description of the motives. They called her “the first lady of Bosnian and Herzegovinian painting ”.

Mica Todorović is a unique artist who doesn’t appreciate style and work, she rather appreciates the experience and path that leads to work. Her painting 'The Terrace' perfectly depicts her character and skill for 'building' an object out of abstraction. With her work she reminds us of the beauty and harmony present in the common yet precious everyday objects.
