Mission
To improve the effectiveness of teaching and learning by expanding the quantity and quality of peer- reviewed online learning materials that can be easily incorporated into faculty-designed courses.
MERLOT is a free, web-based resource for Higher Ed.
Organizational History & Evolution Organizational History & Evolution
•1996-1997 NSF funds Authoring Tools and Educational Object Economy project. California State University’s (CSU), Center for Distributed Learning establishes an open multimedia repository.
•July 2002 Total of 22 higher education system partners with management provided by CSU.
•1998-2000 A collaboration is formed among the CSU System, Univ. of North Carolina System, Univ. of Georgia System, Oklahoma State Regents. •July 2000 NSF funds MERLOT as part of the Digital Library initiative.

• GLOBE: Global Learning Object Brokered Exchange to expand the quantity and quality of online educational resources that can be easily incorporated into faculty designed courses.
• Partnership of digital libraries that have sustained institutional constituents – Federated Search– ARIADNE (European Union), EdNA (Australia), eduSource
(Canada), NIME (Japan), MERLOT (US), and other organizations have been identified as potential collaborations, including JISC, SUN, Commonwealth of Nations, etc.
