We continue to need your help. Thanks to those who previously responded to
our request for information about your park in order to update our database.
Please call Bob Burton, VP East at 509-295-8225, or e-mail Bob at
[email protected]. We need the name of your park, current monthly rent on your
lot, amount of last increase, do you have a clubhouse, swimming pool, tennis court,
horseshoe court, hot tub, or picnic area. Does your rent include water, sewer,
trash or cable? Does your park allow pets, do they require a deposit? If you have
a clubhouse, would you want a representative for MHOA to come make a park
presentation and address your problems and questions, if so, please call the MHOA
office at 360-373-2436. Would you be willing to host a MHOA Quarterly General
Membership Meeting? Say, December or January?
Despite recruiting nearly 100 new members, through July of this year, there are
159 members who are delinquent in the payment of their $15 annual renewal dues.
We need you to renew your membership! If you’ve moved, sold your home, went
into assisted living, or are no interested, call or e-mail the office.
Remember—MHOA is a 501c-3 IRS Non-Profit, you can write off cash donations
to MHOA. Please help us by sending in a donation. $10, $20, $30, $50, $100.

Until MHOA is successful in obtaining grant
money to support our efforts under our 501c
-3, we desperately need members to renew.
We also need every MHOA member to
personally commit to recruiting a minimum
of five of your neighbors to join MHOA. If
every current MHOA member would
accomplish this goal, we could increase our
membership up to nearly 4,000 members.
We need more members to commit to
working in their parks to strengthen their
MHOA Chapter or HOA by volunteering to
be an officer or helper. We also need more
District and Regional Directors to help
recruit new members, answer resident
questions, and set up new Chapters or
HOAS. We especially need District
Directors in the areas north and south of
Seattle and in Eastern Washington. This is
not a hard job and is very satisfying when
you help your fellow manufactured home
residents. Andy Bergman, our State
President, or Bob Burton, our Vice President
East, are available to train you how to make
park presentations, answer resident
questions and concerns and help set up
Chapters and HOAs.
National MHOA (NMHOA) - Save the
date—NMHOA’s national convention will
be held this year in Seattle from November
13-15, with a reception on the evening of the
13th. For the agenda, details, location,
contact Rita Loberger at
[email protected]. Please sign up.

Senior Discounts—We previously
reported Applebee’s Restaurant for a
15% discount, the discount is only
10%. The 15% discount only ap-
plies with a “Golden Apple Card”.
Suspicious vehicles—If you notice
a suspicious vehicle driving through
your park, write down the following
description and give to your manag-
er:
Color, make and boy type of the car
(sedan, two door, convertible,
pickup, van), License number and
state
Other identification (body damage)
and make of the car,.
Selling your home—If someone
calls and is interested in seeing your
home, it is best to get their name and
number and tell them you’ll call
them back to confirm an appoint-
ment. This is more for security rea-
sons than anything else. You need to
know as much as possible about
who you’re inviting into your home
and that they are really interested in
the home and park and not just cas-
ing the joint. If you are single, in-
vite one of your neighbors to be with
you in the home when the visitors
arrive so you can have someone with
them at all times. Don’t let a visitor
wander through your home by them-
selves. Put your jewelry box away..
Bake cookies, put out flowers!
Office Volunteers—We need volunteers
to help out in the office in Bremerton.
Skills necessary are answering phones,
opening mail, answering e-mails, filing,
and greeting guests and visitors. The time
commitment could be anywhere from 5-
20 hours per week. We are hoping to re-
ceive grant funds in 2014, which we
might be able to offer some monetary
compensation to our volunteers. If you
live in or around the Kitsap peninsula and
can help out, please call Cheryl Pasternak
at the office at 360-373-2436.
Safety Tips
1. Keen emergency numbers in large
print next to each phone and on
your refrigerator.
2. Think about signing up for some
kind of “Life Alert” device.
3. Have your vision checked at least
once a year.
4. Have your doctor or pharmacist
look at all the medicines you take,
even over-the-counter medicines.
Some medicines can make you
sleepy or dizzy.
5. Get up slowly after you sit or lie
down.
6. Wear shoes both inside and out-
side the home. Avoid going bare-
foot or wearing slippers.
7. Improve the lighting in your
home, put in brighter light bulbs.

Stop Discrimination in Housing—The laws protect you from discrimination
based on your: Race, color, sex or gender, ancestry, religion, age 40 or older, na-
tional origin, marital status, parental/familial status, disability, sexual orientation,
retaliation, or se of a trained service animal.
Were you denied housing because you come from another country, or because you
do not speak English? Has your landlord made repairs for some tenants but not
others, based on their race, color or national origin? Did your landlord make you
pay more money or refuse to rent to you because you have a large family? Have
you ever been told, “we don’t allow children in the clubhouse or riding bikes in
common areas” Did a manager refuse to rent to you because you use a wheelchair
or walker?
Drinking water problems—Systems can be especially vulnerable during floods.
The Office of Drinking Water, within the Department of Health, can provide in-
formation for water systems: ODW Headquarters—360-236-3100.
INVITE YOUR MHOA OFFICERS OR DISTRICT DIRECTORS TO COME
VIST YOUR PARK, AND ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS, MHOA IS HERE
TO HELP. WE CAN MEET IN YOUR CLUBHOUSE, IN A RESIDENT’S
HOME, A NEARBY GRANGE HALL, FIRE STATION, BANK MEETING
ROOM, LIBRARY, RESTAURANT, OR SCHOOL. CALL THE MHOA OFFICE
AT 360-373-2436 OR E-MAIL US AT [email protected] WITH YOUR
CONCERNS. WE WILL PASS YOUR MESSAGE ON TO ONE OF OUR OF-
FICERS OR DISTRICT DIRECTORS AND HELP YOU SET UP A PARK VISIT
TO ADDRESS YOUR CONCERNS AND EDUCATE YOU ON THE LAWS
THAT PROTECT YOUR INTEREST IN YOUR PARK AND HOW YOU CAN
FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE.

President’s Message
From Andy Bergman—Summer has arrived throughout our state—do enjoy it, despite
the heat. MHOA made history this past June in hosting our first Manager training of-
fered for owners and managers of parks in and around Vancouver, WA. We had 14 at-
tend to learn how best to work cooperatively with residents in their respective parks. We
worked with the Park Owner’s Association in putting on this training session. We hope
to have our next training session in the fall. Watch for information on this date. We ex-
pect the next class to be held in the Tacoma area to draw from the surrounding area.
We welcome our many new members who have joined MHOA this year (now at over
100). We appreciate your support and we are looking forward to getting more Chapters
or HOAs started. Keep those memberships coming in (invite your neighbor to a MHOA
meeting)!
Our 3rd Quarter MHOA Membership Meeting will be on Saturday, September 13 in the
clubhouse at San Scouci MHP in Puyallup . Registration, coffee and social starting at
9:00 am, with breakfast put on by the park ($3.00 cash only), the MHOA meeting will
start after breakfast (at about 10-10:30 am). Put the date on your calendar now. A light
lunch will be served for $6 (cash only), or you can brown bag. All the money received
will go to the host park. Please call the office at 360-373-2436 or e-mail us at mhoaof-
[email protected] to let us know you will attend as we need an accurate court for lunch or if
you will be brown bagging. This meeting is open to all so make plans to attend. We’d
like a super turnout for the people who are planning and hosting this meeting. This is a
good time to bring residents who are not members so they can learn about MHOA and
join. THE LUNCHES ARE GREAT!
As always, we continue to solicit membership through your contacts. Members grow
with person-to-person contact within a park at the park’s social events or just chatting
with your neighbors. Please keep up the good work. We are gathering names of people
who would like to become move involved with the MHOA organization. There is plenty
of mentoring available so jump in now and express interest in running for an office or
District Director position, or talk with someone you know who might be great at this.
GET OUT THERE AND TALK UP MEMBERSHIP AND BRING FIVE OF
YOUR FELLOW RESIDENTS WHO MIGHT WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT
MHOA AND HOPEFULLY JOIN US. BRING YOUR QUESTIONS AND CON-
CERNS, WE CAN HELP! If you know of a senior or low-income resident that would
like to join MHOA but can’t afford the $15 dues payments—donate $15 for them to join!

The MHOA Annual Meeting of members for 2014 was held at Broadmoor
MHP, in Yakima, and was called to order by President Andy Berman at 10
am. Attendance was 27.
President Bergman addressed the first Manager Training Program for 2014,
which will be put on by the park owner’s association (MHCW) in Creekside
Mobile Estates in Vancouver. 113 letters were sent to park owners asking
them to send their managers to this training.
Senator Curtis King from the Yakima legislative district was the guest speak-
er for the event and talked about the State Budget. Senator King reported
that there is no increase in college tuition for state schools for 015, 2 billion is
needed for education in the future. The budget for the year is supposed to be
balanced, with no new taxes.
The Treasurer’s report was presented by Mr. Bergman. There is a potential
to have a grant submission by may for $2,000 (note—this fell apart, but Bob
Burton, Vice President East, is working on preparing and submitting grant
applications for $30,000 each to five different government and private grant
agencies or funding sources).
Election of Officers: It was moved, seconded and unanimously passed that
the current slate of MHOA officers be re-elected for another year.
The annual John Landis Award went to Fred Jones for his 14 years of faith-
ful service and to Judith E. White, Chair of the Legislative Team (the LAT),
both long term members of MHOA.
New Business—President Bergman presented the potential of having a work-
shop this coming fall for both managers and tenants to talk about problems
in communities and how we can both work together to solve problems.
The meeting adjourned at 2:00 pm.
