Creative Communities projects

1. RADF evaluation•An evaluator will be engaged toundertake a comprehensiveevaluation of the RADF program,its guidelines and objectives in2012.•Extensive consultation will beundertaken with RADFparticipants and stakeholders.•Steering Group made up of arepresentative from each of thefive RADF population classeswill guide the evaluation.

Creative Communities projects

Backing Indigenous Arts

• Funding of $13.2 million until 2014-2015.• Provides support for access to arts infrastructure,

professional development and creates pathways forartists to showcase export ready work on the worldstage.

• Key programs include working with Indigenous artcentres, the establishment of the Cairns IndigenousArt Fair, and the Cairns opening in 2009 of theDjumbunji Press KickArts Fine Art Printmaking.

• The Queensland Indigenous Arts Marketing andExport Agency (QIAMEA) - promotes QldIndigenous arts and artists through strategicmarketing and export initiatives internationally.

Backing Indigenous Arts (BIA) is a Queensland Government initiativestarted in 2007 to build a stronger, more sustainable and ethical Aboriginaland Torres Strait Islander arts industry in Queensland. BIA is the onlystate government initiative of its kind in the country. BIA supports allartforms.

Career Development Grants

• Help practitioners advance their own career• Develop skills or creative practice• Raise their industry profile• Provide significant benefits to the sector• Represent a significant career milestone in

relation to past career achievements and futureplans

Career Development Grants support activities that provide a significantand timely career development opportunity. They support professionaldevelopment activities that:

Grants of up to $5,000Applications accepted all yearround, allowing five to eight weeksprocessing time.

The grant funding will be used towards supporting a four week curatorial researchresidency at 501 Artspace Chongqing, China with a view to creating ‘sister city’networks and relationships for the applicant and his project, the Brisbane Emerging ArtFestival.

• The applicant has clearly articulated his proposed outcomes with clear potential tobecome a catalyst of cultural exchange in the Queensland arts sector.

• The residency will continue the applicants’career pathway towards becoming aninformed Queensland arts worker.

• This opportunity for the applicant to honehis skills and form vital networks will benefitthe festival and the sector as it helps notonly to build his own career but will alsosupport activity developing a newgeneration of Queensland arts and culturalleaders.

Development and Presentation Grants

• The program is open to individuals, groups,organisations and local governmentauthorities.

• Funding up to $50 000 per applicant isavailable.

• Priority areas for 2012—Projects thatinvolve artists, cultural workers and/orproducers working in and with remotecommunities. See heARTlands initiative inartbeat strategy for more details.

Artist in Residence Program

• Queensland schools, pre-service teachertraining institutions, artists and artists’organisations are eligible to apply.

• Minimum residency of 20 days or 100hours in a Queensland school

The AIR program gives artists an opportunity to broaden their experienceand share their skills, while providing school students, teachers and pre-service teachers with greater exposure to the benefits of creative practice.It creates opportunities for artists, teachersand pre-service teachers to work togetheron developing effective teaching methodsand practices for the arts.

Evidence broad support for your project

To compete successfully, you need to demonstrate wide ranging industryand sector support for your project. eg:• diverse funding sources – share the risk• Local government support• presenting and/or producing partner• arts sector and community support• commercial business support & sponsorship• Scoping surveys or rigorous research and consultation to inform• the rationale for your project

Support material should include:CV for key personnel, quotes, letters of commitment and confirmation fromall major partners including presenting partners and personnel involved inthe project, itineraries, reviews, and examples of work.

Outcome Reports

• Applicants who receive a grant are required to submit anOutcome Report within four weeks of the end of theirproject.

• TIP: When you start you project start the Outcome Report.It’s much easier! As you achieve milestones write themdown.

• Applicants with grants that have overdue outcome reports orwho have not satisfactorily acquitted a previous grant, will beineligible for further assistance.
