Danny Balin Wins on LatinoAmerican Tour Highlights Tournament Success Stories

Congratulations to Danny Balin of Burning Tree Country Club on his win last week at the Guatemala Stella Artois Open on the PGA Tour LatinoAmerica. Danny shot 70-65-66 and was tied for the lead in the final round when play was suspended and the results reverted back to the 54-hole scores. That win moved Danny in to the top 5, an important

KPMG Women’s PGA Championship Week Filled with Golf Activities and Highlighted by a Major

In addition to the myriad of events surrounding the Championship, this will be a landmark moment for the PGA thanks to their partnership with the LPGA and KPMG to create the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. The week

will not only bring together a world-class, annual major golf championship with several of women who have been or continue to be part of our Section competing at Westchester. Liz Caron of Mill River Club and wife of A-1 Jason Caron qualified last fall in the LPGA T&CP Championship along with Jean Bartholomew, formerly of Garden City and an incredible athlete growing up on Long Island. Jean is a former Met PGA Junior Girls Champion as is Kelly Shon of Port Washington who is in the field as well. Met PGA Club Association Mailing is Out Please be on the lookout for our recent mailing on the 2015 Met PGA Club Association. Clubs support this effort with a $300.00 annual dues that supports all of our good works in junior golf, employment, education, communications, public relations and a host of other special activities. The mailing was sent to head professionals, Club Managers and Club Presidents so please make sure you do not miss this important information. Thanks to several clubs who have already sent in their payment.

Head Pro Support Tops $8,000.00 thus far for Assistants Contribution Fund Including the Assistants Contribution Fund link on the 2015 Tournament Dues payments once again had an incredible impact on in-creasing donations from our head professionals. The Assistants Contribution Fund supports the Assistants Tour events and provides for 40% of the field to earn a paycheck as opposed to 33%. This fund will also support the William A. Mitchell Scholarship Fund to assist needy apprentices with their costs of education. If you missed making the donation and would like to contribute, head professionals can click here to support this effort.

Met PGA Junior Golf Fundraisers Getting Started Once again in 2015 we are asking our assistant professionals as well as all of our PGA Members to assist with the important task of raising dollars to support our efforts for Junior Golf. With over 110 events plus our commitment to The First Tee, it is easy to understand why your help and support are so necessary.

Many of our assistants have also mentioned that selling raffles and running a fund-raiser is tough for them to do. That is why we instituted several years ago our policy that any assistant who raises over $1,000.00 will get entry into the Assistants Championship top tier automatically and they can give raffle tickets to their fund-raiser supporters. If you would like some help with an event for your club, contact our office or any of the Assistants Board. This year we have also established an initiative called The Birdie Challenge where members can pledge money for every birdie recorded on our Junior Tour. This is a very easy way to get your juniors and your club members involved at a very reasonable commitment level. Check this out by clicking here. Our thanks to everyone who gets behind our Junior Golf programs and others who are planning on staging an event to help us try to again top our $100,000.00 goal for 2015.

PGA HOPE is Off to a Great Start Not every professional is at a club like Rolling Hills or Westchester Country Club where the members are incredibly committed to helping with the Patriot Golf Day programs. However, the PGA HOPE golf program at West Point has been amazingly inspiring for everyone involved. Working with vets from the Montrose VA, the volunteer professionals working under the direction of Kelli Clayton and Jonathan Gold seem to have gotten as much out of the first two weeks as the

enthusiastic and willing vets. A special thanks to host professional Andy Crane at West Point and to Dave Carazo, Jim McCann, Bob Bigonette, Kregg Moyer, Kevin Rodine, Paul Glut, Mike Turnesa, John Kennedy, Barry Troiano, David Young and Tom Henderson. The 6-week program will conclude with a special graduation ceremony on July 2nd on the grounds at West Point. We are still looking for donations of sets of golf clubs, golf bags, and range balls. If you are able to help please email Kelli at [email protected].
