That’s My Window On The World
HAPPY 15th ANNIVERSARY to the METRO PHC
It was fifteen years ago this month that the METRO Parrot Head Club was formed by Marty McAteer. The club started with about two dozen people and has grown in population to 460 +... each month we add new members, drop old members that have not sent in their yearly dues...then they are returned to the roster when their check finally arrives. I have to give a lot of credit to our club Treasurer/Census Taker Peter Bosshard for keeping up with the club population, which changes month after month.

From the mouth of parakeets...
As the end-of-the-year schoolwork trickled home, my fourth grade daughter, Georgie Anne, brought home her "Writer's Notebook" from school. As I read her thoughts on the variety of topics that the teacher had the class write about and share with the class, I found this one and thought I'd share it with all you Parrot Heads. I hope you get a kick out of it like I did. ~Susan Mantovani
Here it goes:
From the Writer's Notebook of Georgie Anne Mantovani dated 5/05/07
On May 30, 1901 the Hall of Fame for Great Americans opened. If you could nominate 3 people for the Hall of Fame, who would they be and why?
"My three people are Carrie Underwood, Jimmy Buffett and Teddy Roosevelt. (I'd choose these people because they are great leaders.)
I chose Carrie Underwood because she is a great singer, she believes in herself and she won American Idol.
I chose Jimmy Buffett because he loves kids, is a great leader and a great person.
I chose Teddy Roosevelt because he made history, he was very nice and loved animals."
Ed. note: Any parakeets that wish to contribute to the Parakeet cage should send articles to [email protected]

East Meets West
By Scott Willett Sr.
Recently, we had the chance to get back to Southern California for a little R & R. The waves & weather were great and it was easy to see why Jimmy Buffett likes it there so much.
After a morning of sailing in San Diego Bay, it was recommended that we walk down the wharf to Seaport Village. It turned out to be a great suggestion because not only did we have a nice lunch, but also we discovered a real Parrot Head treasure—Captain’s Cove.
You hear the Buffett music as you approach Janice Berube’s Captain’s Cove. Inside, it is a plethora of Parrot Head, pirate, and nautical paraphernalia. Janice keeps her store well stocked with a large assortment of Goin’ Coastal products (formerly known as Caribbean Soul), clothing, jewelry, and household décor items.
You may ask yourself, why would someone have a store that caters to Parrot Heads? Well, not only is Janice a Jimmy Buffett fan, but she is also the treasurer of the San Diego Parrot Head Club. Janice invites all Metro Parrot Heads that can’t make it to the west coast, to visit Captain’s Cove at www.captainscove.net. Metro Parrot Heads are urged to use our own code- Metro4- for a 15% discount.
Captain’s Cove has been serving San Diego’s Parrot Head community for 26 years. You can email Janice at [email protected]
JIMMY DEBUTS IN ATLANTIC CITY
Jimmy Buffett’s June 30th concert in Atlantic City was well represented by the Metro Parrot Head Club. In fact, Scott Cronick of The Press caught up with our very own Alan Kantorowitz:
Allen Kantorowitz, of Fort Lee, however, was one of the most festive, wearing a parrot foam hat, sunglasses with a palm tree and a parrot on each side, a grass skirt, beads and a Hawaiian shirt.
“Life doesn't get much better than this,” said Kantorowitz, who has seen Buffett a couple of hundred times around the country. “If you're looking for a few hours of escapism, this is it. There's perfect weather, perfect scenery and a good mix of people who don't know what's going on and other people who have been doing this for a long time and want to get those people involved in this crazy Parrot Head world we live in.”
Buffett fans find that it's 5 o'clock all day in resort

10 Questions for Jimmy Buffett
By Jimmy Buffett
Is it still fun? Be honest.—Peter Smith, MERRIMACK, N.H.Yeah. I wouldn't do it if it wasn't fun. You know, I just played a show in Virginia where 26,000 people stood in the rain to hear us. That makes a mark on you. We're showing people how, in a pretty crazy and whacked-out, dangerous world, you can still have fun.
"Party with a purpose" is the motto of many local Parrothead fan clubs. Do you have any new plans for helping your followers do more good in the world?—Julie Eliza, TALLAHASSEE, FLA.I think if I lead by example, that's the best thing. I come from a pretty environmental kind of background, but I've got toys [yachts, planes, etc.]. So you know, the obvious thing next is to try to green myself up first and lead by example. It's a hard one, but I'm working on it.
