Tarrytown Ticket Seller John Corbett recently avoided what would’ve been a “ruff” morning, when he rescued a pair of pooches – after their close brush with the 7:47 AM express to Grand Central Terminal. As Tarrytown riders prepared to board the train, Corbett saw two toy dogs – a Pomeranian and a Lhasa Apso – unattended and running into the station. John thought the furry duo was just passing through until he got to the end of the platform where saw them right on our northbound tracks. “I knew it wasn’t going to end well,” Corbett said. “I tried calling for them to come back, but they weren’t listening…and then a train started approaching. All I could think was ‘this is over’, there’s no way they’re walking away from this,” he noted. “And then the train went over them.” But in what can only be described as a doggie miracle, they reappeared, completely unscathed! Due to their small size, they were able to crouch down as soon as the train approached, walking away with only a scare (and a dangerous close-up look at the underbelly of a passing train car!). After their brush with mortality, the dogs concluded their life on the run was a little too hectic, and ran back towards John. Tag-less and tired, he brought them into the ticket office to keep them safe…he even went out and got them food! After trying to find their rightful owner, he brought them home to spend the night (Corbett’s pooch wasn’t too happy!). The next day, with the help of animal control (who recognized the pair), they were returned home. And they say only cats have nine lives! FORGET THE RACE FOR THE WHITE HOUSE... and focus on the more timely nominees—those for our prestigious President’s/Team Excellence Awards! We’re asking you to submit the names of your coworker candidates who you believe have outstanding qualities— working safely, taking pride in a job well done, mentoring new employees, etc. If you know of any coworkers who possess these qualities, go to your keyboard or pick up a pen and start the nominating process! Carbohydrates are another macronutrient that our bodies need: Carbs provide 4 calories per gram and are found in starchy foods, fruits, milk and yogurt in large quantities, and vegetables, beans, seeds, and cottage cheese in smaller amounts. Carbohydrates are the main source of fuel and energy in our bodies. They are needed to help the central nervous system, the kidneys, the brain, the muscles (the heart is a muscle) function properly. Carbs are stored in the muscles and liver to be used later. They are important in intestinal health and waste elimination Be careful eating carbs, though, because they break down to glucose to be used by the body, but excess glucose is stored as fat.
