Library Policy on Phones“The use of cell phones or any electronic listening devices is prohibited throughout the Library. This rule will be strictly enforced by the staff. Please be sure to turn off your cell phone when you enter the building.”

Library Policy on Laptops

“Laptop use is allowed only in the Green Alcove, the study rooms and Hornblower Room on the fifth floor, and in designated areas in the stacks. All laptops must be used with audio and sound devices turned off.”

Doesn’t exist. However, as long as library members are silently using their phone and not disturbing others, we don’t mind.

What we’re doing

Monitoring Use Online:

Using Google Analytics, 3% of all visitors to our main website in 2010 used mobile devices.

Using Google Analytics, up to ten people per day visited our library catalog on mobile devices.

Monitoring Use in Person:

Good Use:• Using a smart phone

during a lecture to research a speaker

• Searching the online catalog in the stacks

Bad Use• Using a cell phone in

the library to call the front desk to report that they were out of printer paper

• Cell phones going off during lectures & presentations.

the merely curious. This course will provide an overview of various Apple products,

including personal computers, iPods and iPhones. We will unpack the most useful Apple software (iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie) and take a peek at the offerings available at the App store.

Upcoming Plans

• A new member-wide survey in 2011 should help determine the areas of interest and expansion with our members. Our last member survey was in 2000.

• Redesign of the website & catalog to make it cleaner, slicker and mobile-friendly. Library member focus group for ideas.
