> From Sept.2013 onwards, a ‘fuel oil register sheet’ is completed by the buildings’ technical personnel,

recording the quantity of oil delivered specifically to each of the pilot buildings

> In Jan. 2014, 2 electric hour-meters per burner were installed in each of the five pilot buildings’ boiler

rooms, so the period of operation of the central heating system for each building will be accurately

recorded from now onwards, from which heat consumption can be calculated

Metering / monitoring

Ø Thermographic images taken of buildings’ facades, before application of external insulation

Ø Images will be taken again after refurbishment, to compare results

Page 18: Metering / monitoring c.pdf · 2017. 10. 5. · Metering / monitoring Data acquisition – Electricity Ø In April 2013 , central electricity meters and data loggers were installed

36

Ø Heat metering

• At room level for 144 rooms of building S1, through wireless heat meters on each

radiator, thermostatic valves, wireless data loggers

• Monthly / annual feedback to users of these rooms through energy-efficiency bulletins

• Central heat metering at building level for each of the 5 buildings

• Central metering of solar contribution to DHW for each of the 5 buildings

• Effectiveness of smart metering assessed at ‘whole building level’ – comparison of

total heat consumption (kWh) of rooms of building S1 (including heat metering and

controls at room level) and total heat consumption of other ‘neutral’ buildings (S2-S5)

derived through central heat metering. Rooms of S2-S5 will not have not have heat

metering at room level

• Comparisons between metered consumptions for 144 rooms to analyse patterns

• Information from central meters for all buildings will be used in information

/awareness raising actions:

o Visualising in display screens, heat consumption per building and contribution of solar energy

o Issuing monthly/annual bulletins with energy consumed per building

o Other actions e.g. competitions (to be coordinated with WP2 activities)

37

Ø Electricity

• Sample of 6 typical rooms in building S1 participating in smart metering at room level: 4

one-person and 2 two-person flats. Electricity metering at room level through installed

meters/loggers outside each pair of rooms

• Weekly / monthly feedback to users of these rooms through energy-efficiency bulletins

• Central electricity metering at building level for each of the 5 buildings

• Effectiveness of smart metering assessed through comparisons between the electricity

consumption (kWh) of the 6 typical rooms of building S1 (including elec. metering),

before and after implementation of awareness raising actions for the specific users

• Comparisons between elec. consumption of 6 rooms of building S1 (including

elec.metering) and elec.consumption of other ‘neutral’ rooms of other buildings (S2-

S5) not including elec.metering. The typical consumption of ‘neutral’ rooms will be

derived through pro-rata approximation using the total metered elec.consumption at

each building level

• Information from central meters for all buildings will be used in information

/awareness raising actions (as for heat)

q Use of common project indicators

• Energy calculations before/after refurbishment

• Metered data before/after refurbishment

q Users’ questionaires before/after refurbishment

• Energy/comfort questionnares have already been given to

users for the ‘before’ refurbishment conditions

• 100 students have responded

Ø Ongoing monitoring of refurbishment impact
