METAL WORKING PRODUCTS 1.4 The Welder’s Choice PROCEDURE Select the rod and matching size collet. Install the collet and the rubber washer of the size selected in the torch. Place the rod end with the recessed fuel rods in the torch, seating the rod firmly in the collet against the rubber washer. Connect the oxygen hose to an oxygen regulator. Depress oxygen lever on the torch while setting the pressure to 40-90 psi. Ground the striker plate lead to the positive side of the battery or welding machine. Connect the power cable (from the torch handle) to the negative side of a 12-volt battery or a welding machine. Wear eye protection – #5 shade or darker. Depress the lever to start a small amount of oxygen flowing and ignite the rod using the striker plate. Start the cutting, gouging or piercing process with low oxygen pressure and gradually increase oxygen pressure as needed. Release the oxygen lever to extinguish the torch. WARNING Always protect yourself from spark and spatter burns. Never operate the torch without a spatter shield in place. Always use personal protective gear. Use safety glasses and a face shield. Wear leather gloves. Leather sleeves, apron, welder’s hat and shoe coverings are recommended. When using an arc welder to ignite the torch, do not make the workpiece part of the electrical circuit. Use the starting cable and copper strip placed on a non-conductive surface (on ground or concrete floor). APPLICATIONS • Dismantling equipment • Demolition • Piercing and freeing frozen pins/bolts • Removing frozen bearings • Removing frozen bushings • Rescue work • Gouging cast iron • Removing hardfacing • Cutting track • Railroad work • Track vehicles • Drain plugs in carriers • Tanks and howitzers • Concrete and granite** * Can also be ignited with the use of any standard arc welder or cutting torch. Use arc welding lens & hood to protect your eyes. ** Concrete may pop. Use extra caution. Note: Does not work on copper. See next page for rods, assortments and replacement parts. X-Cut Exothermic Cutting System This exothermic torch system operates on oxygen alone. The rod is ignited by a spark from a battery or welder. The oxygen reacts with the fuel rods to create a burning reaction hot enough to burn through almost any material. The oxygen jet then blows the molten material away. It will blast through steel, alloy steel, cast iron, manganese, hardfacing, stainless, aluminum, steel-reinforced concrete, composites, refractory brick and even rock. • Cuts, gouges and pierces almost all materials — steel, steel- reinforced concrete, stainless, composites and more! • Burns through almost anything quickly — faster than a carbon- arc or oxy-acetylene torch • Economical — rods last longer and cut more material than other systems • Simple design makes this torch easy to use and very reliable • Portable — requires only the power of a 12v battery* and an oxygen cylinder • Excellent for pin removal — pierces steel pins in minutes Cutting Gouging Piercing Scan to see application video!
