IntroductionWelcome to this special Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker guide, presented to you in COLOUR (gasp) as well as PDF format. This project is completely designed and written by yours truly. This is also the first time that I’ve tried something like this, so Istill have much to learn.

My reasons for attempting this on Peace Walker are two fold. Of course, I’m a hugefan of the series, and also, a guide on the demo would be least daunting in terms of work required. I didn’t want to bite owork required. I didn’t want to bite off more than I can chew, so to speak. The writing and designing of this project actually went very smoothly. Writing for a portable console definitely has its benefits, in that it’s possible to write virtually anywhere.

This is a very important project for me, and I have put my best foot forward to make this guide as high quality as possible. I really hope you enjoy the pages that follow and find it useful somewhere.

Game Basics

On to Equipment...

R1 to use melee strikes, and hold onto it to use CQC.

Do note that there is no crawling anymore, but there is the crouch walk. (Crouch +Direction).

To activate either the Weapon or Item Menu, you’ll have to hold down the corresponding direction (left for Items, right for Weapons).

You can use Rations either automatically or manually. To use them manually, hold lefton the directional-pad to pull up the Items Menu, and scroll over to them, then hit theon the directional-pad to pull up the Items Menu, and scroll over to them, then hit theR1 button to use.

The item “Soliton R.” that Sneaking Suit and Jungle Fatigues setups have is the radar. It is battery charged, so unequip the item to recharge the battery.

There is no pause function as far as I know. Hitting the Home button won’t pause theaction either.

If you hit the Start Button in-game, you’ll be given a list of options, as well as a map.I have no idea what these options are, but I do know that the menu on the farthestI have no idea what these options are, but I do know that the menu on the farthestright will allow you to quit (top option), or restart the mission (bottom option).

Naked Snake

Jungle Fatigues

This version of Snake is packing some serious heat. The power weapons areidentical to the Battle Dress version. Now, because Snake’s torso is exposed, he won’t be able to take much damage before going down, but he’s also much faster. Hewill also not have the benefit of camoflauge, and that’s a major downside.

This suit has a nice variety of features. You get a decent camouflage rating, and youalso get a nice variety of weapons. The Mk.22 is there, the M16 is there, which is anassault rifle, and doesn’t quite pack the punch like the M60. The SVD is there as well, and this is a Sniper Rifle. Overall, this is a very balanced version of Snake, and you can certaintly go through the whole demo without changing it.

Page 7: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo Walkthrough

On to Walkthrough...

Sneaking Suit

Battle Dress

As you can probably guess, this is purely a stealth set-up. If you get spotted, you don’t have much in the way of fighting back. The Vz61 is a sub-machine gun and itwon’t be enough for you to hold off a real wave of enemies.

This suit is very much like a shell, and with it on, Snake can abosrb much more punishment. In terms of weaponry, it’s the same as the Naked setup. You don’t havethe Mk.22, which is a pretty big setback, but you are probably going to use it againstthe tank only, so it won’t be much of an issue.

7

Page 8: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo Walkthrough

The game begins with a brief cut scene (you don’t say). Snake will make his way down to the beach, and once he does, you should gain control. At this point, you arefree to test out some strikes (R1) on the good soldier. A tutorial will follow, and you should only go through this if it’s your first time playing MGS.

Snake: What's the matter, Kaz?Kaz: We've got a guest.Snake: Asking for our withdrawal? (from Columbia, I presume)Kaz: No worries. He's not CIA. Follow me.Soldier: Thank you, Big Boss. (in reference to participating in the tutorial)Snake: Just Snake.Soldier:Soldier: Ah...sorry.Victory is ours. (He said "Boss of Victory" [Shiori no Bosu] but I'm trying to make it coherent here)Snake: No, we shall never have victory.Soldier: "Victory..." "Victory or Death?" ([Vicutoria o Maerute] I think it's a motto of...SOME organization...)Snake: Either way, it wouldn't matter to us.

8

Page 9: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo Walkthrough

Gálvez: Ah, thank you. *drinks coffee* Costa Rican coffee is better.Snake: So, what's an esteemed professor of the Costa Rican government doing in Columbia?Gálvez: I'm Gálvez of the Costa Rica Peace University.Well...an year ago, we've had sightings of an armed group in Costa Rica. Of course it isn't the military.Kaz: Costa Rica doesn't have an armKaz: Costa Rica doesn't have an army...Gálvez: That's right. Article 12 of our Constitution: "The Army as a permanent institution is abolished. There shall be the necessary police forces for surveillance and the preservation of the public order."Paz, or "Peace," of the University of Peace, whose goal is to have Peace: The "Peace Article."

Snake: So this armed group...you sure they're not with the FSLN? (Sandinista National Liberation Front)l Liberation Front)Gálvez: No.Snake: What's the Costa Rican government's take on this?Gálvez: They say it's an "international police force hired by the Costa Rican Development Agency (CODESA)." That's BS, of course. These guys are shipping in tons of the latest equipment.Snake: where do you suppose they get their funding?Gálvez: I'm afraid...it's "la cia." (He pronounced it "la see-ah." I'm assuming this is Gálvez: I'm afraid...it's "la cia." (He pronounced it "la see-ah." I'm assuming this is Spanish slang for the CIA)Snake: CIA!

9

Page 10: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo Walkthrough

Gálvez: In reality, people view Central America as "The US's Backyard." After the Cuban Missile Crisis, Central America has proven to be an important part in the delicate balance of the US and South America.Snake: And for that reason, your government sought me out?Paz: We can't carry guns...Kaz: According to the 9th Article of Japan's Constitution, there can be no military, for ""War has been given up."

Gálvez: Please help us! You have to drive out the intruders from our defenseless nation. Are you not "Militaires Sans Frontieres?"Kaz: So you're hiring us?Gálvez: Yes. You have to be our temporary deterrence. As for the pay...it wouldn't be too handsome... Anyhow, this is their base, the Sea Platform.Snake grunts.Kaz: Come on, Snake. Kaz: Come on, Snake. We can't be a ragtag group of soldiers anymore, we gotta find somewhere to settle down.Gálvez: Remember, this is an unofficial request, but our government will still aid you in your efforts.Kaz: Then we need some helis to move some equipment.

10

Page 11: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo Walkthrough

Gálvez: No problem-Snake: Hold it. We're not Dogs of War.Gálvez: Yes...I've heard that you are an army without a nation.Snake: We have given ours up.Gálvez: Please help us!Snake: If you're right about whom we're up against, there's no chance. You'll need a political method.political method.Gálvez: The nation is helpless-Snake: Go back to your nation. Find a negotiator.Gálvez: No...I'm not here as a representative of our government. I'm here as an educator. I'm here because of this child I'm educating at the University of Peace. Her name is Paz, Paz Ortega.

Snake: La Paz...(The Peace)Kaz: HeKaz: Hey, we have the same name. I'm Kazuhira, which means Peace in Japanese.Nice to meet you, Paz! (offers his hand) You can call me Kaz Gálvez: They seem to have landed on some coast... Paz's friend was kidnapped. Pazhas been through war. She is an orphan. Her parents were killed in war. She hates warmore than anyone.Paz: [shouting] My name is The Peace and I have to protect Peace! Please help us drive away the intruders from Costa Rica, my home! and-Snake: Not a ch-Snake: Not a ch-Gálvez: Please! Are you not the one---the one they call Big Boss?Snake: !!!!!!!!!!

Scene End

11

Page 12: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo Walkthrough

The action begins with Snake on a beautiful beach, free from any enemies. Before yougo anywhere, turn around and pick up the Rations.

Continue east on the beach and you should hit a security fence rigged up withbarbed wire. Time to equip the Grenades, and throw one at the fence. Stand clearof the blast radius to avoid taking damage. If you run out of Grenades, grab the caseto the south of the fence, next to a rowboat.

Sprint east onto the beach now, and keep an eye out for the tipped over tree to yourleft in about the middle portions of the beach. Grab the nearby ammo here.

12

Page 13: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo Walkthrough

As soon as you enter the next checkpoint, Snake will be shown eyeing an enemy guard. Crouch-walk up behind him and take him out with a single Mk.22 bullet tomaintain your stealth. Just north of this guard, to your left, is another enemy. Pick himoff from afar to avoid detection.

Just east of the second guard’s patrol route are a couple of ledges that lead you rightup to some Rations. The mission is coming to a close, so these are optional or forcollectionists. Make your way to the northeast portion of the map to approach themission’s end, but do it with caution. There is still a single guard remaining. With allother threats neutralized, feel free to dismantle this lone soldier in any fashion youwish. Head through the opening in the northeast corner to conclude the Opening/TTutorial.

13

Page 14: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo Walkthrough

Recommended Equipment: Sneaking Suit

This next sector will have no enemies, so you are free to explore. Shortly after entering, you should notice that there’s a blocked off path to the north. Unfinishedarea perhaps? Regardless, we won’t be able to reach it so let’s re-focus on the taskat hand. Continue east on the path and keep an eye out for some Anesthetic ammoto your right. You’ll need these for later. Head east even further now, and you shouldsee some Rations in the north. You’ll find the sector exit at the east end of this area.

Proceed with caution ahead, and you’ll soon see a truck guarded by two guards. Takea good look at the closest guard and dispose of him with a single shot. Now, quicklycrouch walk to his tranquilized body and turn your attention to the guard ahead. Try totake him out before he turns around and notices his fallen comrade. The next checkpoint is just up ahead, west.

14

Page 15: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo Walkthrough

The next sector is just up ahead, in the eastern end of this area. If you stay crouchedand continue cautiously, you should be able to move right past these two guards without much trouble.

The next area is the Stronghold that we have been seeking. In order to secure it, wehave to take out of every guard here. To start, make a break for the lumber stacks and aim towards the lake. Take out this single guard and stay where you can see his body.

Get into crouch walk immediately, and proceed ahead, veering off to the path that opens up to the south. Proceed east in this direction with caution. You will encountera lone enemy here shortly. Dispatch of him with a headshot and continue to the south-east.

15

Page 16: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo Walkthrough

With that guy disposed of, wait until one of his buddies come and check on him. As hemakes his way to his sleeping comrade’s body, crouch walk behind him and follow, step for step. Once he stops to take a look, take him out with CQC. Be sure to chokehim for a second before tossing to get the guaranteed knockout.

Time to make your way further south, towards those four stacked crates next to a littleshack. If you head to the gap between the crates and the shack, you should be ableto pick off another guard if you look in the direction of the lake. There’s also someMk.22 ammo in that shack (magic shack?).

16

Page 17: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo Walkthrough

Next, look for a guard tower in the southern portions of the area. Circle around behindthe cabin you identified earlier, to the very southern end of this area to find the ladder leading to the top of the tower. There’s a guard up here.. Take him out as you wish. I used a hold-up (aim weapon up close), as well as the Fultons.

To use the Fultons, equip them and crouch beside the sleeping body. Hit “up” on yourdirectional pad to launch him up to the skies (it’s a non-lethal method of disposingenemies).enemies).

At the top of the guard tower, if you look to the north, and below, you should seethe dock along the shore. There’s a single guard remaining here. Once he goesdown, this mission is complete.

Just in case if you get detected though, there’s a turret in the dock area for you to try out.

17

Page 18: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo Walkthrough

Recommended Equipment: Battle Dress

For this mission, make sure you have the Battle Dress on. Before we actualy begin battling, sprint to the northeast a little bit to find a case of ammo for your M60, as well as ammo for your M1911A in a large ditch. Additionally, sprint up the hill in the west tofind another case of M60 ammo in about the middle portions of the map. These ammocases respawn, so be sure to come back when you need it, and stay close.

Stay on the hill where you collected the M60 ammo, and take aim at the convoy below. Be careful not to kill any of the soldiers if you are going for perfection. It’s kind of pointless to kill them anyway, because they’ll respawn. The best course of action is just to ignore them, and focus on the tank.

You don’t have to fire in bursts. Hold on to the L1+R1 to get continous fire going, butrepeatedly tap the X button at the same time to control the recoil.

18

Page 19: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo Walkthrough

It is very important for you to keep moving. Never stay still to attack for too long. Thebest thing to do is to run as far away from the tank as possible, and continue your attack as it approaches. Also, when you are not attacking, be sure to reload to keepyour clip full.

The tank has two attacks: machine gun fire and explosive fire. To get out of the wayof the explosive fire, just roll (Direction + R1) to one side a few times. You should know exactly when itknow exactly when it’s about to fire explosives, because the commander insidewill say something like “WA-SA!” and all of the soldiers in the line of fire will get ontheir bellies. As long as you aren’t careless, and don’t get too greedy when attacking, you won’t be hit with the explosives. Do be careful because the tank fires four to fiveof them at a time.

Be sure to take cover behind the lumber stacks, as well as the crates. There are a bunch in the southern area, close to your spawn point, as well as many more scatteredthroughout the battlefield. You are immune from the explosives when you are behind the lumber, so be sure to have a full clip and let ‘er rip. Don’t forget that you also have an RPG-7 with three rockets to use.

19

Page 20: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo Walkthrough

Keep an eye on the tank’s health bars on the top left of the screen. As you wear it down, look to finish it off. If you run low on ammo, switch to your RPG-7, or even yourM1911A. If it has just the one bar left, you should be able to finish it off with your handgun. Otherwise, visit the ammo spawn points identified earlier to replenish yourM60.

Take note of the two “CRT”s behind the tank, identified in the picture on the left. If youshoot at them, you should notice that it does about 1300 damage, compared to theregular of 700. Blow both of those up and the tank will be temporarily immobilized, allowing you to empty a full clip of the M60 onto it.

20

Page 21: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo Walkthrough

With a full runthrough of the game’s three stages under your belt, it is very possibleto still get a quite a bit of playing time in before you delete the demo. Obviously, tryingto beat your previous times should keep you a little busy, but I also have two more suggestions that I know will challenge you a bit. Aside from these two ideas, try to think of different ways to challenge yourself.

Naked Run (No Alert and No Kills)This is the classic MGS runthrough, dating back to Snake EateThis is the classic MGS runthrough, dating back to Snake Eater. For this run, you’dobviously choose the “Naked” setup prior to mission two (take control of stronghold one). To make it interesting, make it a no alert, no kill run. These requirements shouldchallenge even the most seasoned MGS players, as well as evoke some of the BigBoss Emblem style intensity in MGS4.

Stamina Kill the Tank (Commander)To accomplish this feat in mission three, you’ll need to shoot the guards, and use yourFultons to get rid of them.Fultons to get rid of them. To use your Fultons, equip them from the Item Menu, andcrouch down beside a sleeping soldier. Then, hit up on the directional-pad to send himflying.

Anyway, you’ll probably notice that once you send four soldiers flying, four more willrespawn. You’ll have to take these guys out too. I think they respawn one more timeafter that, so take these out, and they will finally stop. Once everybody is gone, theCommander will stick his head out of the tank, and stay out. Shoot him with your Mk.22 until you deplete his Stamina ba22 until you deplete his Stamina bar, and the battle will be over. I recommend using the Sneaking Suit for this task. It is still possible to do even if you get an alert.
