about• Since 1983, the Metal Construction Association (MCA) has been
working hard to educate the trade on the benefits of metal, and expand the use of metal in commercial projects.
• MCA is a progressive organization supported by nearly 100 member companies, including
• manufacturers, coil coaters, distributors, fabricators, accessory and insulation producers, and
• contractors. Together, our members have contributed from $3.5 to $5 million annually to the technical
• and market-development work of the metal construction industry
works• • monitors and acts on the latest codes and standards that
affect metal
• • conducts research and product-performance testing
• • educates architects, building owners, and contractors on the benefits of metal
• • expands metal’s presence in sustainable design and green building activities
• • certifies roofing products and coatings, and metal composite material (MCM) fabricators
• • develops major new markets

Addressing issues
• With national attention on environmental issues—such as energy efficiency, green building, and
• sustainability—MCA closely tracks national codes and is poised to defend or make changes
• that remove barriers to the use of metal in construction. The association also monitors code and
• standards issues related to structural performance, wind uplift, fire safety, acoustics, and energy.
Technical research• MCA funds research on and performance testing of metal roof
and wall systems. Data from these
• studies are used to position metal favorably in codes, standards, technical papers, and promotional
• materials. In turn, these publications help educate building owners, designers, and installers. Most
• importantly, this research results in the use of more metal products in a wide array of building
• projects
meTaLcon inTernaTionaL• METALCON International is the industry’s largest exposition and
• conference program dedicated entirely to expanding the use of
• metal in construction. Sponsored by MCA, the event reaches a worldwide audience and includes
• MCA-produced live demonstrations of field techniques for applications of roofing and wall panels.
• METALCON is widely considered the place to showcase new products and capture the pulse of the industry. (www.metalcon.com)
metal roofing alliance
• This national marketing initiative helps MCA achieve its goal of increasing the
• use of metal in the residential roofing market. The Metal Roofing Alliance (MRA)
• specifically educates consumers on the benefits of metal roofing through their
• website, TV ad campaign, and Find-a-Contractor program. (www.metalroofing.com)
The meTaL iniTiaTive
• Launched in 2005, The Metal Initiative educates decision makers and
• influencers in the commercial and institutional markets about the benefits
• of metal. This coalition of companies provides educational presentations,
• webcasts, technical resources, and access to industry experts on the use of metal roof and wall
• components. (www.themetalinitiative.com)

cerTificaTion Programs
Our certification programs provide members added value and credibility in
their respective markets. The Metal Roofing Certification Program sets the
standard for steep-slope metal roofing substrates and paint finishes. The program promotes the
widespread use of appropriate metal roofing products and increases consumer confidence in
choosing a metal roof.
The MCM Premium Fabricator Certification Program requires adherence to
performance standards. The program identifies select fabricators that have
demonstrated superior capabilities to deliver outstanding applications of MCM panels for
architectural applications.
