The ProcessTo fully understand the benefits of electrocoating,it is necessaryto understand the m
echanics of the process. We use gray oxide
primer carefully balanced w
ith resins, pigments and corrosion
inhibiting agents. As processed, resins are w
ater insoluble andm
ust be converted chemically into salts that are easily dispersed
in the water.
In electrocoating, our tanks are filled with this w
ater dispersionof paint. T
he paint particles have a negative surface charge dueto the salt form
ation. The structural m
embers to be painted are
connected to the positive side of a powerful D
C pow
er supply,giving them
a positive charge. The tank itself is w
ired to thenegative side of the pow
er source. When the pow
er supply isactivated, the current flow
s from the negatively charged tank
to the positively charged structural steel, causing the negativelycharged paint particles to m
igrate to the steel and be plated tothe surface.
The ResultsD
uring this plating process, taking one to two m
inutes, electro-chem
ical reactions take place on the surface of the structuralparts, changing the salts in the paint back to their original acidstate. T
he voltages involved (200-300 VD
C) act as a kind of
electronic pressure to densify the resin, resulting in a paintfilm
not only water insoluble, but virtually 100%
solid.
After coating, the parts are baked in an oven, converting the
paint films to an enam
el composition that is hard, abrasive
resistant and it’s with this process, superior corrosion resistance
is achieved.
Engineered for high performanceWhether it’s our “Snap Tight” or “Mechanically Seamed” roof panels, Builders can rest assured that Chief’s panels are engineered with performance in mind. The STC (Snap Tight Construction) roof panels feature a snap together standing seam and factory-applied hot melt mastic sealant for added weather tightness. This offers Builders quicker project completion and less construction and repair costs.
Chief’s MSC (Mechanically Seamed Construction) roof panels are field seamed to completely seal the interlocking panels, creating outstanding weather tightness. With expanding and contracting panels—including a UL90 wind resistance rating for strength—both the STC and the MSC panels provide the peace of mind that building owners expect and that Builders demand.

Ultra-Kote Premium (UKP) FinishChief’s Ultra-Kote Premium finish is made with polyvinylidene fluoride resin, where a minimum of 70% of the resin is PVDF (Kynar 500® or Hylar 5000®). This unique chemistry is combined with acrylic resin, as well as ceramic and select inorganic pigmentation. The result is Ultra-Kote Premium’s proven ability to resist ultraviolet radiation in sunlight for maximum protection against general weathering effects, chalking and fading.
Acrylic Coated Galvalume® (GM)Chief’s exterior roof, wall and trim material is available in an industry standard ASTM A792 Acrylic Coated Galvalume® finish. Galvalume® is a unique coating of 55% aluminum and 45% zinc that resists corrosion. The Galvalume® sheet is coated with a thin, clear acrylic coating applied to both sides.
Since all color chips are affected by age, lighting conditions, heat and mechanical coating processes, the chips on this page may vary slightly in color or finish from the actual product. Oil canning in the flat areas of panels is inherent of coil steel products and shall not be a cause for product refusal. Chief reserves the right to change designs, prices and specifications at any time without notice.

CHIEF BUILDINGS’ STRUCTURAL STEEL MEMBERS ARE ELECTROCOATED FOR POSITIVE PROTECTION AGAINST CORROSION.
• Electrocoating has proven superior to spray-on primers in providing
protection when exposed to weather during construction. It reaches
places conventional spraying and dipping can’t.
• This gray oxide primer maintains a superior appearance, but may be
field painted should you choose to finish with a coat of paint.
• There is no other process that gives the same consistent, abrasion and
corrosion resistant results as CHIEF Electrocoating.

Oven baking the plated steel results in
a smooth, hard, abrasion and corrosion
resistant enamel film.
CHIEF Electrocoating, being a liquid
submersion process, penetrates virtually
everywhere, most notably the places
that spray primer can’t reach.
Introducing electricity into the process
creates a current, forcing the negatively
charged primer to plate the positively
charged steel member.
THE PROCESS
To fully understand the benefits of electrocoating, it is necessary to
understand the mechanics of the process. We use gray oxide primer
carefully balanced with resins, pigments, and corrosion inhibiting agents.
As processed, resins are water insoluble and must be converted chemically
into salts that are easily dispersed in water.
In electrocoating, our tanks are filled with this water dispersion of
paint. The paint particles have a negative surface charge due to the salt
formation. The structural members to be painted are connected to the
positive side of the power source. When the power supply is activated,
the current flows from the negatively charged tank to the positively
charged structural steel, causing the negatively charged paint particles
to migrate to the steel and be plated to the surface.
THE RESULTS
During the plating process, taking one to two minutes, electro-chemical
reactions take place on the surface of the structural parts, changing the
salts in the paint back to their original acid state. The voltages involved
(200-300 VDC) act as an electronic pressure to add density to the resin.
The result is a paint film that is not only water insoluble, but virtually
100% solid.
After coating, the parts are baked in an oven, converting the paint films
to an enamel composition that is hard and abrasive resistant. With this
process, superior corrosion resistance is achieved.

CS/AP PANELSUltra-Kote Premium (PVDF)
Superior materials make the difference...
Premium finishes and design give CHIEF’s Standard Panels (CS) and CHIEF’s Architectural Panels (AP) the edge when it comes to quality steel roof and wall panels. They’re ideal for a variety of other applications as well. Interior liners, fascias, canopies, and soffits are just some of the many uses for this versatile panel. With a 1 1/8” deep corrugation for added strength, 36” panel widths for quicker erection and availability in many different colors, CHIEF’s CS and AP ribbed panels are the perfect choice for your construction project.
Ultra-Kote Premium (UKP) Finish
CHIEF’s Ultra-Kote Premium finish is made with polyvinylidene fluoride resin, where a minimum of 70% of the resin is PVDF (Kynar 500® or Hylar 5000®). This unique chemistry is combined with acrylic resin, as well as ceramic and select inorganic pigmentation. The result is Ultra-Kote Premium’s proven ability to resist ultraviolet radiation in sunlight for maximum protection against general weathering effects, chalking and fading.
Acrylic Coated Galvalume® (GM)
CHIEF’s exterior roof, wall and trim material is available in an industry standard ASTM A792 Acrylic Coated Galvalume® finish. Galvalume® is a unique coating of 55% aluminum and 45% zinc that resists corrosion. The Galvalume®sheet is coated with a thin, clear acrylic coating applied to both sides.

Strength and Versatility
Both the new MVF (Mechanically seamed Vertical leg Flat) and the MVP (Mechancally seamed Vertical leg Pencil-rib) have been engineered for higher uplift capacity, improved performance and erectability. To help reduce the effects of oil canning, the pan of both panels includes striations, while the MVP panel also incorporates pencil ribs into the design.
The MVF and MVP are 24 gauge, mechanically seamed, 50ksi steel roof panels that are ideal for retail stores, dealerships, offices, churches, schools and any building where architectural apperance is desirable. The versatile MVF/MVP panels do not require a structural underlayment, but can be installed over one if desired. With the MVF and MVP panels, CHIEF Buildings has created a higher performance standard for an industry favorite.

Engineered for High Performance
Whether it’s our “Snap Tight” or “Mechanically Seamed” roof panels, Builders can rest assured that CHIEF’s panels are engineered with performance in mind.

T O P R E A S O N S W H Y M E T A L BUILDINGS ARE THE ANSWER
1. Metal Building Systems are a proven solution that make up
over 50% of all low-rise, non-residential construction in the
U.S. year after year.
2. Metal Building Systems outshine alternative construction
methods when sustainability is a concern with considerably
less environmental impact than load bearing masonry walls,
cast-in-place concrete and tilt-up construction methods.
3. Metal Standing Seam Roofs are proven to last as long as the
buildings beneath them, lasting upwards of 60 years under
normal use and with only regular maintenance.
4. Metal Building Systems provide the long clear spans that afford
wide-open floor plans. Achieved only with steel construction.
Concrete alone doesn’t even compare.
5. Metal Building Systems optimize framing members resulting
in a design that uses no more material than is needed with
virtually no waste in the manufacturing process.
6. Metal Building Systems offer flexibility in design and aesthetics
allowing the full spectrum of available exterior cladding options;
steel siding, wood, glass, aluminum, masonry and concrete.
7. Metal Building Systems provide convertible space. Few or
no interior columns allows your building to be adaptable to
changing needs over the course of its life span.
