FROM THE PASTOR

“You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed; you have guided them

by your strength to your holy abode.” Exodus 15:13 (ESV)

Dear Friends in Christ, What does God want me to do? Where does He want me to go? Most of us have asked these questions at one time or another. We would desire the Lord to tell us personally or at least give us a road map that would tell us exactly where to go and what comes next in life.

As Israel left slavery in Egypt for freedom in an unknown land, they depended greatly upon the direction of the Lord. In the day, they followed a cloud. At night, fire filled the cloud so that they could see by it and be guided by it.

There is an important difference between the cloud and fiery pillar of God’s presence and a road map. Without a map or GPS, the Israelites couldn’t run ahead of where God led them or anticipate where they would be six weeks later. Instead, they could move only at God’s speed, in God’s direction, as He led them by the cloud and fire.

As we follow Christ, empowered by His Word, worship, His Holy Supper, devotion and prayer, we have no guarantees in where we will be ten years from now or what we will be doing then. We are not even assured what we will be doing next or even the next day. Our trust and hope is in Jesus Christ Himself, who is our Savior and guide. Through Christ, God has pledged that He will watch over us and will bring us where He has promised—no matter how strange or hard the

journey. After all, Jesus has already traveled through death into life again for us. In Him alone, we have forgiveness and abundant life now and forever. He promises to bring us safely through this life into God’s presence forever.

One of my favorite psalms in the Bible is Psalm 121. It was one of the psalms that God’s people very likely would sing or say as they traveled to worship the Lord or ascend the steps to worship the Lord in the Temple. As many of us will be traveling on vacations and seeing family this summer, may we continue to be faithful in looking to the Lord and seeking His mercy, blessing and guidance. He speaks to us, guides us, and directs us through His Word. He assures us of His love and presence. He empowers us by His Spirit so that we might ever rest in his care and be empowered to glorify Him and witness of His love and salvation to a world that is lost in sin. We too continually lift our hearts and lives as individuals and as a people of God to our great and gracious God. May this Psalm be one of our prayers in all we do and may He keep us all close to Him.

Psalm 121 I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade on your right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. 8 The LORD will

LADIES AID

St. Peter’s Ladies Aid met at 1:30pm on June 6th. President Eldarene Bowlin opened the business meeting. Following Pastor Crolius’ opening devotion, the secretary minutes and treasurer’s report were accepted as read.

Old Business – Plans to sort through our grey dinnerware and offer most of the dinner plates, some bowls, and salad plates to the congregation for a free will offering will be delayed until fall. We no longer use those plates and they’re taking up cupboard space.

Sunshine Committee – Mary Schuette and Lois Radtke took little potted geraniums to each shut-in. We also thank Lois for sending “Thinking of You” cards to our members who have moved out of the area.

Char Hillman requested prayers for her daughter, Laura, and others who will participate in a second mission trip to Tanzania this summer.

President Bowlin announced there will not be a July meeting. The August meeting will be at Pizza Ranch at 11:30am on August 1st. The Executive Board will bring prizes for bingo.

The Board of Congregational Services is looking for a person or persons who would like to share their time and talents as the Sunday

School Superintendent.

Sunday School teachers and helpers are always needed and planning will begin soon to make sure we have teachers when Sunday School begins again in September. Moms, dads, and young adults are always welcome to share their time and talents in any way.

If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please contact the church office at 524-4512.

LWML

We opened our meeting reciting the LWML Pledge followed by the Secretary’s Report being read and approved and Treasurer’s Report being filed for audit.

Char read a “thank you” we received from Pastor Matthew Harrison for the $100 gift we sent to Cindy Wrucke, a missionary we support in the Eurasia Region. Also a thank-you note had been received from Brittany Stowers for the baptism quilts. Char handed out prayer requests for Laura Hillman’s mission trip to Tanzania telling us what their trip would do to help others.

Committees: Quilting – Blessed with many baptisms lately, more baby quilts were made. Quilters will meet June 13 and 27, and they will continue throughout the summer. Char thanked them for their efforts. Baptisms – 5 babies were baptized in the last month.

Old Business – Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive-Betty reported 23 jars of peanut butter and 25 jars of jelly were collected which is about half the amount of previous years. Marcia Christensen delivered them to the food pantry. Sheets were passed around again for members to sign up for program leaders and servers.

New Business – Mission Grant voting sheets were passed around and Char read what each grant entailed. We each voted on our top 5 choices which Char and Julie will vote for these top 5 choices at the LWML District Convention on June 23: 1. Lutheran books for missionaries around the world. 2. Scholarships for Low Income Campers at Camp LuWiSoMo. 3. Camp Courage: A Place of Hope and Healing. 4. Financial Assistance for Concordia Seminary, Ft. Wayne, Food and Clothing Co-op to purchase food. 5. SWD Church Worker Grant.

Char gave us information on the ingathering items requested for the Convention and mentioned that our Zone’s Breakfast Basket for the silent auction at the Convention was ready. All proceeds from the silent auction will go for mites.

Elections – Our President read “Four People in the Church-Somebody, Anybody, Everybody and

Nobody”. We need a new President as Char is stepping down after 4 years. Betty agreed to serve as our Treasurer. A motion was made to vote a unanimous ballot for Betty; motion carried.

Char shared information about the 2018 LWML SWD Fall Retreat in Oshkosh in September. We sang Happy Birthday to our four June birthday gals and we thanked Betty for being our server. For our mite devotion, Mary shared a short video called “More than Enough”.

“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm

therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery” (Gal. 5:1).

We celebrate this month because of the freedoms and liberties our country has afforded us. We are right to do this. We should be thankful for these liberties: the freedom to gather together to worship and to live out what we believe in our daily lives.

But freedom and liberty in our age has devolved. It has become a freedom from duty instead of a

freedom for it. Indeed, freedom and liberty in our age has turned into licentiousness: a license to do what we want, when we want.

This license is a submission, again, to a yoke of slavery. For freedom as license to do what we desire when we desire it means we are slaves to our desires, slaves to our passions.

Christ died to set us free from our sinful desires. In Holy Baptism, our Old Adam is drowned and put to death along with all sin and evil desires so that a new man may arise and live before God in righteousness and purity.

In Christ, we are a new creation. We are set free from the passions of the flesh so that we are free to do our duty and bear fruits of the Spirit.

Our duty is what God calls us to do as members of a family, society, and the church.

God calls us to believe in His Word and gladly hear and learn it. He calls us to pray for all people. He calls us to live in faith toward Him and in fervent love for our neighbor. He calls us to put the gifts He gives to us in His service. God calls parents to provide for their children and raise them in the fear and admonition of the Lord. And God calls children to honor their parents and provide and care for them when they are no longer able to do so themselves.

God calls the government to punish those who do evil and to reward those who do good. He calls citizens to pay their taxes and honor the governing officials as God’s servants. He calls pastors to preach and teach the Gospel as well as repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And He calls hearers to support those who teach them with every good thing.

Christ died to set us free from the works of our selfish flesh, giving us the freedom and liberty to do our duty. Stand firm, then, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

ST. PETER’S LUTHERAN SCHOOL NEWS

LEGOS CLUB

St. Peter’s Lutheran School will have a LEGOS (Let Everyone Glorify Our Savior) Club starting next school year. This club will meet twice a month after school. The exact dates will be shared at the start of the school year. What is a LEGOS Club? It is an opportunity for students in Grades K-3 to be inspired by God’s Word, through a devotion shared by Mr. Tessendorf, and then create something with LEGOs based on that devotion. Sounds Fun - but it can only happen with your help! Currently the club has no LEGOs. Please consider donating any LEGOs you no longer play with or need. Or perhaps you may find a good deal on LEGOs at a garage sale and be moved to donate them to the St. Peter’s LEGOS Club. There is a donation box in the back of the church. Thank you for your consideration.

Athletic Director. After many years of faithful and outstanding service, Tim Thomas is stepping down as St. Peter’s Lutheran School’s Athletic Director. We thank Mr. Thomas for his service and pray for God’s continued blessings for him and his family. Athletic Director Part. 2: So who will be the Athletic Director for 2018-2019? Mrs. Chesky (Soon to be Mrs. Vossen) will serve as the Athletic Director next year. We welcome her and pray that this will be a blessing to her as well as the children she serves.Kindergarten Assistant: Mrs. Lynch, who has faithfully served as St. Peter’s Kindergarten assistant for the past few years, will not return to St. Peter’s in 2018-2019. We pray God’s blessing for her and her family as she makes this change. We are in the process of searching for the next Kindergarten Assistant. Survey Says: The information collected during the April survey has been reviewed by the teachers, Board of Christian Education and myself. A presentation highlighting the information will be

given at the October Voter’s meeting. Parents will have an opportunity to view the presentation in September at a Principal Chat. More details on that presentation will be coming soon. Note: the

LEGOS Club is an example of how the survey has helped improve the ministry of St. Peter’s Lutheran School. Thank you to everyone who participated. Be looking for the next survey in April of 2019.

Principal Chats: During the 2018-2019 school year I plan to host two Principal Chats. The first will be in September followed by another in February. In September I will be sharing highlights of the survey and goals for the school ministry. There will be an opportunity for you to ask me questions. The Principal Chat will be open to parents, guardians and church members. Dates for these Chats will be set in August.

In His Service,Mr. Roger Tessendorf, Principal

THANK YOU

Dear brothers and sisters at St. Peter’s Lutheran ChurchI wanted to than you again so much for your generous financial support and prayers as I studied to be a Lutheran school teacher in the Classical Education program at Concordia University Wisconsin. Your giving has been a wonderful blessing and a means of God to meet my needs. I am excited and grateful to report that I have graduated from Concordia with a B.A. in Classical Lutheran Education-the first in the new, synodical endorsed program. I have also received a call to teach 1st and 2nd grade at Mount Hope Lutheran School in Casper Wyoming! I am eager to begin this wonderful new station in life, helping lead young ones to Christ and teaching them about good, true, and beautiful things, as well as giving them the tools for learning. I pray God will guard and keep me and give me wisdom to faithfully serve Him in Casper. Thank you again for making possible my excellent education at Concordia! May our Lord bless you with His pure Word and always guard and keep each of you in our merciful Savior.

Sincerely in Christ,Anna Hahn

He also went over the great turnout for the Gala, which brought in almost $17,000 which will be used to do more updates in the gym.
