Message from the Principal ‘Tis the Season to be … Camping? Term 3 brings with it many highlights every year … Creative Generation, NAIDOC Week, Study Tour visits from Japan, the Australian Mathematics Competition, Interhouse Athletics, Volleyball Queensland Senior Schools’ Cup, my birthday, the QCS Test, our Trivia Night, the TYME Festival, and our Arts Day, to name but a few. One highlight that I haven’t mentioned above is our three Term 3 camps - our three-day Year 11 Leadership Camp, our five-day Year 10 Outdoor Adventure Camp, and our two-day Year 8 Outdoor Activity and Leadership Preparation Camp. Each camp has a different purpose, a different location, a different time allocation, and a different group of students and staff, yet achieves a common outcome of strengthening the lives of our students and developing their skills outside of the conventional classroom. In an era where some secondary schools have moved away from camps due to various factors, our Term 3 camps, combined with our Year 7 Adventure Day and Year 9 Emu Gully Day in Term 1, continued to remain foundational and essential in our school, both supporting and enhancing the Australian Curriculum. Our Year 10 and Year 11 Camps commence next week on August 19, and our Year 8 Camp commences in five weeks on September 16. I do understand that there is a cost involved, and time away for students from the comfort of their own home. I do, however, encourage all students and families to eagerly embrace these opportunities. I look forward to visiting our students and staff on each of these opportunities and to hearing their many exciting stories, adventures and experiences. Ken Green Executive Principal

Football Academy FUTSAL The Girls Football Academy represented Harristown in the u16 and u19 divisions at the Champion of Champions futsal tournament in Oxley. The top teams from South East Queensland competed for the title. Harristown girls played well but were not able to make the finals, however they did get a shot with ex Brisbane Road player Henrique. RED LION CUP Red Lion Cup was held in Highfields with Harristown nominating teams in the Cup and Plate competition for boys and girls. The girls’ plate team achieved two draws and a loss but it was not enough to take them through to the semis. The girls’ cup team made the final and dominated the match with strong crowd support but went down 1 nil to Stanthorpe. The boys’ teams have made the semis with the cup team to play Highfields and the plate team is set to play St Josephs. Good luck boys!

Indigenous Education News
The Harristown Clontarf academy has had a massive 4 weeks. Last week saw all South East Queensland academies gather at the University Southern Queensland, Toowoomba campus for our Regional Senior Employment forum. The forum was launched at the official dinner on the Tuesday night, where the boys had the chance to chat to Clontarf partners in a relaxed setting before the major event the following day. With an intense focus on graduate employment, Wednesday's forum gave the boys had the chance to quiz partners about jobs with their companies next year. Clontarf partners Thiess, Hastings Deering, Kmart, APA, Suncorp, Aurizon and Protech and others were in attendance. The Harristown boys were awesome and every one of the 14 Hawks asked questions and provided information about their future. A very exciting time ahead for our fellas.
Over the coming weeks there will be a number camps for the boys, they include;
• Year 7 & 8 Rugby League and Rewards camp • Year 8 & 9 Contact time camp • Year 10 Rewards camp.
To attend your son must be involved in the Clontarf program and meeting a number of expectations.
We have a number of indigenous boys enrolled at the school and are not part of the program and would love them to be. If you would like to get your son involved please call me on 0404040841. Eddie Groom Harristown Clontarf Academy Director

School Opinion Survey - Reminder Each year the Department of Education seeks feedback from parents/carers, students and staff about how or school is going in relation to a number of categories.
All families will receive a survey form to provide a response in the coming fortnight. Your response is anonymous so the system does not link your name with your form.
Please take the time to fill these in and HAVE YOUR SAY.
Further details will be provided on the survey form itself. Forms are due back to the school office by Friday 23 August.
This fortnight sees the Library joining in the celebrations of reading with the CBCA Book Week announcements on the 17th August and the Premier’s Reading Challenge ending on the 23rd August. Years 7, 8 and 9 students can still record the books they’ve been reading at the Library and collect a PRC or CBCA bookmark, featuring the beautiful Bob Graham artwork. Remember that creating and maintaining a daily recreational reading habit helps students with academic performance and wellbeing.
Keep reading every day.
