Front License Plates – I was in Olympia this week talking to our State Senator and Representatives and Senator Rolfes indicated she is keeping the bill alive that would eliminate the need to display a front license plate. This is a short session so I do not expect much action on it, but it is encouraging that there is still interest. Keep your fingers crossed. I will close with a passing thought: Tempus fugit! Literally translated: time flies. My 1967 Corvette is 47 years old this year. It is hard to imagine that I have been driving that Corvette for over 39 years and it is still going strong. GM only planned for these cars to last 10 years, so it is a miracle that many have survived this long. The real message here is the cars are not alone in the “getting older” category. 2014 Corvette Caravan: Although a little more than a year and away, 20th Anniversary Celebration AND the National Corvette Caravan registration is now live. For the first time the process has been simplified to a single registration. http://www.corvettemuseum.org/registration/celebration/20info.shtml The 5th National Corvette Caravan will take place the last week of August, 2014. The NW Regional caravan has formed and will join other caravans as they travel across the United States to gather in Bowling Green, Kentucky for four days of festivities at the National Corvette Museum. Corvette of the Month: C7 Z06 General Motors and Chevrolet had a busy day Jan 13th at the North American International Auto Show. First, they had to accept their awards for North American Car (Corvette Stingray) and Truck (Chevy Silverado) of the year. Then they presented the all new Z06 and the C7.R race car. The Z06 will have more than 625 horsepower and 635 pound-feet of torque, thanks to its supercharged 6.2-liter small-block OHV 16-valve V-8 engine, dubbed the LT4. It will also feature an all-aluminum frame that is 60-percent stiffer than last year’s frame, a standard carbon-fiber removable top and two transmissions — a standard seven-speed manual with rev matching or an optional eight-speed auto. Unlike with the C6-generation Z06, the removable roof panel from the standard Corvette is retained for Z06. Using a new 1.7-liter supercharger developed by Eaton, the LT4 develops 37 percent more horsepower and 40 percent more torque than the LT1 in the standard Stingray, while adding just an inch to the height of the motor. The 2015 model Z06, will be offered with a more aggressive exterior look, sport suspension and a new, high-performance brake system. General Motors is also offering an optional Z07 Stage 3 kit that includes the Z51 option and aggressive aerodynamic spoilers and aero-tabs resulting in the best-ever down-force in any GM model. The driver-centric Z06 elevates the experience even further with technologies like a Driver Mode Selector, which allows for customization of vehicle performance dynamics with the turn of a knob. And Corvette owners can relive their drives on or off the track with the available industry-exclusive Performance Data Recorder, which records high-definition video with telemetry overlays on playback.

Corvette Museum Cruise to Alaska Each year the Museum partners with Cruise Holidays to offer a special journey for Corvette enthusiasts - and 2014 will offer a fun cruise aboard the Celebrity ship to Alaska. The 7-night, 8-day trip kicks off June 20th from Vancouver BC and takes participants to Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, Juneau, Skagway, Seward and past Hubbard Glacier.

Pricing starts at $1,454 and includes the cruise fare and taxes, gratuities, on board meals, a private NCM cocktail party, exclusive onboard NCM events, a group event, on board cruise escort, pre-cruise planning concierge service and travel insurance. Corvette Bucket List, Part 3 Many of us over the years have come to the conclusion that we should experience some of the good things in life before we kick the bucket. Most likely that is why we own one or more Corvettes. This is the second installment in which we list events and venues where we are sure to see Corvettes and their owners in their natural habitat.

24 Hours of Lemans The 24 Hours of Le Mans (French: 24 Heures du Mans) is the world's oldest active sports car race in endurance racing, held annually since 1923 near the town of Le Mans, France. Commonly known as the Grand Prix of Endurance and Efficiency, race teams have to balance speed against the cars' ability to run for 24 hours without sustaining mechanical damage

to the car and manage the cars' consumables, primarily fuel, tires and braking materials.

The endurance of the drivers is likewise tested as drivers frequently spend stints of over two hours behind the wheel before stopping in the pits and allowing a relief driver to take over the driving duties. Drivers then grab what food and rest they can before returning to drive another stint. Today it is mandated that three drivers share each competing vehicle.

24 hours of LeMans, 2014 This year marks Le Mans' 82st anniversary. It will be viewed on 100's of TV networks around the world for an expected audience of millions. In addition to Corvette, the GTE class has undergone a remarkable revival of interest with manufacturers such as Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche and Viper entering cars. 3-time GTE winner, the French Larbre Competition team and its Corvettes will be up against tough rivals. The Larbre Compétition Corvette won the GT2 class in 2012. Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1, Corvette Racing came in 4th in the GTE Pro class in 2013.

The 24 Hours of Daytona

Currently known as the "Rolex 24 at Daytona" for sponsorship reasons, is a 24-hour sports car endurance race held annually at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. It is run on a 3.56-mile (5.73 km) combined road course, utilizing portions of the NASCAR tri-oval and an infield road course. Since its inception, it has been held the last weekend of January or first weekend of February, part of Speedweeks, and it is the first major automobile race of the year in the United States.

12 Hours of Sebring

The 12 Hours of Sebring is an annual motorsport endurance race for sports cars held at Sebring International Raceway, on the site of the former Hendricks Army Airfield World War II air base in Sebring, Florida. The event is the second round of the United

SportsCar Championship and in the past has been a round of the now defunct World Sportscar Championship, IMSA GT Championship and American Le Mans Series. In 2012, the race was the opening event of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

The race is also a leg of the informal Triple Crown of endurance racing, which links the three largest sports car races together in a rough equivalent of Golf or Tennis' Grand Slam with the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Daytona forming the other legs.

Chevrolet Corvette C7.R

By the time you read this, Corvette Racing will have fielded two C7.R race cars in the 52nd Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 25-26. The race kicks off the TUDOR United Sports Car Championship – a new series debuting this year after the merger of the American Le Mans Series and GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series. The C7.R will compete in the GT Le Mans class in 11 races around North America. The C7.R sports a 5.5 liter direct injection naturally-aspirated V8 engine.

Luggage? We Don’t Need No Damn Luggage

There you are, standing in the garage, looking at the pile of luggage. Then you look at the space in your Vette and you know it won’t fit. We’ve all been there. Here are some tips on how to get the luggage under control. One of the first things is to abandon the airline luggage and replace it with “Corvette” luggage–and by Corvette luggage we don’t mean luggage with a logo on it. Since a road trip doesn’t involve walking down long airport corridors or handing over your luggage to a skycap and baggage handlers, move to soft bags without wheels. A basic kit consists of 4 duffels–two medium and two small. (2 to 4 Cu Ft each). The small duffels have all the necessary items for an overnight stop. For a quick stop-over, you only need to bring those two duffels to your room and not unload the entire car. For a longer stop-over take everything to your room. Think hard and long about arranging your luggage to fit in the limited space available behind the seats. Here is an unofficial Cargo Index by generation.

Ackermann Effect Take a C7 Stingray for a low-speed spin around a parking lot, turn the steering wheel at a sharp angle, and you'll feel a bumping-jumping-rubbing noise, as if a tire is skipping over the pavement. This sensation is called the Ackermann Effect having to do with the variance in turning radii between the inside and outside wheel, named for Rudolph Ackermann, who patented a steering system in Great Britain in 1818 that overcomes this effect. Corvette engineers decided the Stingray's tight turning radius is more important than eliminating the Ackermann Effect. It comes into play only at parking-lot speeds. The Corvette's firm 18-inch front tires and cold weather also aggravate the problem. When asked, Chevrolet spokesman Monte Doran said: "It does no damage to the car". Corvette drivers also had to deal with the Ackermann Effect in the C6 generation. Doran said the problem could be fixed by enlarging the turning radius. But that might not sit well with Corvette customers who like agile, sharp turns.

Events – Dave V.A. reported on many events that can be viewed on our web site and the Newsletter.

Caravan Up Date – Chuck C. reported 10 cars have joined the cruise to Bowling Green. Target date is the end of August. The Motor Sports Car Park will be opening around that time.

NWACC – Membership voted on each of a 5 point new guide lines and changes for cars and events. Motions were carried and approved to accept each change.

Charity – Central Kitsap Food Bank – The present members raised $120.00 this evening .

Nominations for E Board Officers – V.P. –Donavan Gregory, Secretary – Mary Kay Welsh, Pres. – Dave E. & Treasurer – Larry F.

Raffle – V.P. Paul O. – Larry & Ida Ficca brought Gift Cards & Paul O. brought one dozen fresh eggs.

Pill Drawing is worth $478.50. Member was not in attendance.

For the Good of the Order - Dave wished everyone a Happy New Year. “We’ve had an exciting year this past year. This coming year we will rev it up to make it even better by putting our best foot forward.”
