Transcript of Message from the President About Our Members - … · Message from the President ... our monthly...
Message from the President “If you think it’s hard to meet new peo-ple, try picking up the wrong golf ball.” – Jack Lemmon After the winter we’ve endured, spring golf will be all the sweeter. I’m looking forward to getting the cobwebs off my clubs and hitting a few with the gang once again. I hope you are all looking to recruit new members so our chapter can grow and some of us can meet potential mates. After all, we ARE a singles golf group for a reason. The Board is eager to hear any suggestions you, the members, have for improving our chapter so come to one of our monthly meetings – the second Mon-day at Out West Restaurant at 6 PM or call one of the members with your ideas. The strength of a group of people is directly related to the involvement of each of its members. Happy Spring to you all! See you on the first tee!!! ~Jeanne Peters, President

Golf Tip Short Game With over 60% of your strokes coming from inside 100 yards, it is essential that you spend a proportionate amount of time on your short game as you practice. You should devote most of your short game practice to putting and chipping.
These two shots make up the majority of your short game strokes. Too often students will ask me what the best club is to use for a basic chip shot, for example. My answer is that there is no one single club and that it's up to the player themselves based upon their feel using a particular club, not to mention other vari-ables such as lie, distance, hole location, etc. To develop your feel for the short game, take your pitching wedge, 8-iron, and 6-iron and hit shots with each club to three different targets. The first target should be about 20 feet in front of you, the second 30 feet in front of you, and the third at 40 feet. First hit shots using your pitching wedge. Start to notice how much time the shot spends in the air versus on the ground when hit to each target. Do this with each club and you will see how all shots vary. Once practiced with all clubs, pick around six random targets no more than 40 feet away and begin to ask yourself what the best club is to use for each. You will then be on your way to developing your own feel and understanding for the short game and how different clubs can be beneficial for various types of chip shots

New Year at the Beach
ASGA
WESTERN REUNION
May 30-June 1, 2014
Every year we have a May golf outing and National has one back east over
Memorial Weekend. They annually call theirs “The Reunion”. So this year we
have tabbed ours “The Western Reunion.” We have also picked a location that
most of the members of western chapters of ASGA can get to easily. It’s Carson
City, home of “The Devine Nine,” located 30 minutes south of the Reno-Tahoe
Airport in Nevada’s Capital City.
We have scheduled golf on Saturday, May 31st and Sunday, June 1st allowing
those to travel home late on the 1st or take Monday off and travel then. Golf is
scheduled for Dayton Valley on Saturday and Sunridge on Sunday, both beautiful
layouts. We have a two night, two golf day package with a dinner on Saturday
night plus breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday. The standard package includes
lodging, golf, two breakfasts and Saturday dinner. We have both single and dou-
ble occupancy available. We will be staying at the Gold Dust Resort Hotel and
Casino. The rates are as follow: Standard package:
Junior Suite: Dble Occ. $250/person, Single Occ. $340/person
(double queens or king available)
If you want to get in early and play golf, we have a “bonus” round available at
Silver Oak, for an additional $50. Additional nights’ stays are available through
Gold Dust West.
Any questions, please e mail Dwight Pattison at [email protected]
or call at 916-714-3010 Monday thru Friday, 8-5 Pacific Time.
