Newsletter Number 12 DATE 11.12.17 Message from the Leadership Team Thank you for all your support this term. I hope everyone has a lovely holiday and gets some time to spend together as a family. John Davison Year 5 Swimming Please note that children who have been awarded their 25metre certificate can also purchase a badge from the pool for £1.60. Year 5 Forensic Workshop The children have been learning how to use direct and reported speech, adverbs of certainty/possibility and modal verbs. They have applied the skills they have learnt to their short reports on the day. See how many examples of each you can find? On 22 nd November, Year 5 had a very exciting forensic workshop from Pulse CSI. The teachers planned it for us to take part in all day and we enjoyed it a lot! To begin with, we watched a video to tell us why we shouldn’t post personal details and photos online so that we stay safe. After that, we learnt about our handprints and the marks that they leave behind and made keyrings out of our favourite fingerprint. Then, we got some clear crystal tape and stuck it to the bottom of our shoe to see our footprint and we used the same tape to get hair off our cardigans/jumpers and peered at them under microscopes. After lunch, we wore white, baggy suits, shoe covers, gloves and masks so we could investigate our own crime scene using our knowledge from the morning. One student stated that we looked like marshmallows in our suits! We discovered that the victim was Michael Jones and that the murderer was the victim’s previous girlfriend, Maureen Smith! We all really enjoyed ourselves so perhaps we could share some opinions from the day with you? One student said, “I absolutely loved it and it was a very interesting day!” and Mrs Crawshaw said, “It was clearly the best workshop that I have ever booked in my whole career!” By Freya, Martha, Gabriella and Clara.
