It's hard to think we're already entering the third quarter of the year. We get so stuck into routine and deadlines and day to day functions, that we don't even notice how the days are flying.

This year has been an interesting one so far. We've see some staffing changes, saying farewell to old colleagues that have become friends, and welcoming prospective leaders to fill giant shoes. Our beloved building has been receiving some TLC, with a much needed overhaul creating fresh environments for us to work in.

    Message fromPaul Romeril

Even though some walls have been torn down, their stories won't be lost and forgotten. I'm sure we would stand amazed if we were to relive some of the profound moments of Blue over the years; the groundbreaking victories and earth shattering losses, life changing sales and innovative projects, not to mention the legion of interesting characters that have walked these halls.

Blue is a company that I am deeply proud to work for. This industry is not always an easy or forgiving one, but to be part of a business that changes lives, rescues

damsels in distress, prevents what could be dire situations in the lives of the residents in Durban - what could be more fulfilling.

Alpheos's swift arrest of a wanted suspect, who was stealing dogs in the New Germany area, made the neighbourhood proud. Earlier in month, the client had camera footage of suspects on his property and requested for extra patrols which led to an arrest.

For getting it done, against all odds, Liz from marketing did the digital-deadline-dance of epicness to get both the new Blue Security website and the new Blue International website completed and ready to launch on time (with the help of the rest of the team of course because thats how we roll).

Cheers to Liz, an important part of the Marketing team who gives her all everyday.

However, she's continually looking for useful and relevant content to share with our 11 300 followers on Facebook and 3 300 followers on Twitter.

That's where ears on the ground is extremely helpful. We have such a wide variety of employees dealing with so many different aspects of our business, coming from all over Durban often seeing trends or hearing about an incident, driving

past horrific accidents on the way to work, etc.

We would like to request that should you come across any newsworthy information to please forward that on to Liz. From a crime spike in your area, or criminals posing as municipal workers, or a gang that's using a specific tactic to target homeowners, to pets going missing, fires, or municipal strikes - tell us about it.

Excited to have started another project area in Emoyeni and Comman-age. The project is still pending put looking very positive.

Special Projects are one client away from reach-ing the target to install an Eye in the Sky camera in Hatton Estate.

The team went on team building on 19 June for a day at the beach, cycling on the promenade and topping up their energy with lunch at Centre Court.

  • The technical department together with Salt & Sunshine Ministries embarked on a Winter Warmth campaign at the Summerveld Primary school. Staff were requested to donate to the campaign, within a couple of days an amount of R6 760 was collected.

After a few uncomfortable days crammed into the training room, we finally moved into our refurbished offices. The discomfort was soon forgotten when we entered our new work space.

A BIG thank you to the team for all their hard work in moving furniture and equipment in and out of the office, and especially for the techs who worked into the morning hours the electricity, sorting out the cabling for the electricity, data and the security systems.

These funds were used to supply 516 school kids with hampers which included a blanket and lunch pack. It was a truly moving experience for those who attended to see the gratitude being displayed by the learners and staff. Well done guys, this was an awesome effort.

  • Blue Innovation Centre

Blue Innovation Center chair Stephen Wimborne formed a committee of like-minded individuals around a year back with the idea of creating a central point geared towards stimulating conversation, encouraging creative thinking and developing potential within the business. The committee comprised of Stephen Wimborne, Reubin Pienaar, Brian Jackson, Louis Botha and Darren Lategan are currently exploring and developing the following projects.

The Blue Way – headed up by Reubin Pienaar and Stephen Wimborne. Recently endorsed by EXCO, The Blue Way is a long term project focusing on developing a performance culture and environment within which engaged teams drive innovation and continuous improvement.

Conversations Circles – headed up by Nalize Van Rooyen and supported by Louis Botha. Launched in the last quarter of 2014 has already netted cost saving results for the company, and we are confident there will be many more successes under the guidance of Nalize and her committee.

Incident Management Center – headed up by Brian Jackson and Stephen Wimborne. Work in progress.

Cellular and Data Deals – headed up by Darren Lategan. Work in progress.

Exciting stuff indeed and we encourage you to embrace and engage in the projects. You may also want to be more involved at committee level, if so, please drop me a mail to [email protected] and let’s have a conversation.
