This week we welcomed Steve Harpster to the building and his “Harpoons” drawing assembly. Steve does a great job engaging students in drawing and design using letter and number shapes. The assembly is sponsored by the PTO and is a great example of a positive parent - school partnership adding value and opportunity for our students. Earlier this month we had an awesome music technology program that
was enjoyed equally by students and staff. Special thanks to our PTO for working so diligently in bringing these quality programs to BES!
As we approach the winter break the new construction moves along briskly, The building is now largely under roof, and this week window installations were started. It’s looking more like an elementary school building! This week, the staff are involved with viewing and giving feedback on furniture options.
Kindergarten registration will begin in January. Please see page 3 for more information.

Kindergarten Registration for 2016/17Milford Exempted Village Schools will again be offering a full-day kindergarten class at all of our elementary schools. The cost of the full-day option is $3,000 a year. Scholarships and reduced fees are available for those families that qualify for the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program. Registration begins on Monday, January 4, 2016. Interested parents should call Mr. Jay Batterson, Central Registration, at (513) 576-4178 in advance for an appointment to register. To insure your child has a place in the full-day program at your local elementary, it is important to call soon to schedule an appointment.
A lottery will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016, at 4 p.m. to determine who is admitted into the all-day program. A one hundred dollar deposit is required on the day of registration, but will be refunded if your child is not chosen through the lottery.
After February 12, Kindergarten registration will continue until all of the full-day kindergarten classes at all of our elementary schools are full. Note: full-day kindergarten is not a requirement. The district still offers half-day kindergarten, funded by the state of Ohio, at all of our elementary schools. Parents interested in half-day kindergarten must also schedule a registration appointment with Mr. Batterson.
Community Forum Held on December 2Understand, get involved, and work together for what is best for our students were all messages shared at the district’s community forum held on December 2, at Milford High School. The focus of the forum revolved around three topics: loss of local dollars to fund community (charter) schools; state testing; and unfunded mandates. Approximately 20 parents/community members attended and listened to a presentation on these topics from Milford Superintendent, Dr. Robert Farrell, and then shared their feedback with Board members and district administrators. Ohio Representative John Becker was also present to listen to what our parents and community members had to say about these issues.
Participants also broke into small groups for discussion and each group’s feedback was shared with the whole group. Before leaving, the participants prioritized the next steps for the district from lobbying our legislators for more accountability and a new funding formula for community schools to bringing back more local control of our schools. A detailed summary of the meeting and next steps will be posted on the website next week.
Thanks to those who came out to share their time and ideas. Your input is critical to strengthen our school district and better serve our students and school community
