Some years ago a group of men got together and decided they wanted to help Birth Choice raise funds for the ministry in a very unusual way. They began taking orders for smoked turkeys and hams to cook and sell just before Thanksgiving and Christmas. They called themselves the Holy Smokers and over the years the Holiday smoked meat sale has grown from raising a few hundred dollars each year to now over $10,000 annu-ally! Needless to say preparing this amount of smoked meat over a two day period is a massive undertaking, but one that was recently made much easier for us because of the generosity and hard work of several individuals. This year we have a brand new covered building that not only houses our large smoker and turkey fryers, but also gives our volunteer workers protection from inclement winter weather. We were also donated an 8x8 walk in cooler (we are still waiting for it to be made functional) that will also help the whole experience go much

more smoothly. All this was made pos-sible by two anonymous donors and several workers that actually built the building. The initial framing of the building was donated by G&N Construction from Three Way and the application of the metal siding was done by a group of men from Dixie Hills Baptist Church in Bolivar. Both G&N and Dixie Hills have been long time supporters of Birth Choice. This building also provides us with much needed storage space by building shelves high up in the unusable portion of the building. Most of the time my newsletter article does deal with other seemingly more important issues than just a building update, but I wanted to highlight this because this project will help us to raise more funds to support every aspect of the growing Birth Choice ministry. Today our Nurse Director informed us that we have already surpassed the number of ultrasounds done for all of last year which means more children will be saved from abortion. Hopefully that number

will be even higher next year, partly because some men came to Birth Choice and loved the unborn and their families the best they knew how, building with a servant’s heart as unto the Lord. May God richly bless them for their kindness to His unborn children.

A SPECIAL FRIEND OF BIRTH CHOICE

Every fall we have our annual Walk for Life to help support Birth Choice financially and to also remind the community of the fight for life. Robbie Turner, a very special friend of Birth Choice, is one of our most faithful Walkers. Every fall Robbie talks to his family and friends, his church (Malesus Baptist), and new people he meets about the ministry of Birth Choice and how they can help save lives right here in their own community. Robbie is a great example to us of how the Walk for Life can be a witnessing tool for you to share about the Lord’s love for unborn babies with the people in your own life. Thank you Robbie for helping Birth Choice!

Sanctity of Human Life SundayJanuary 17th, 2016

“We’ll always need Christmas. We’ll always need Easter. But I hope, please Lord, some-day soon, that Sanctity of Human Life Day is unnecessary.” Russell Moore

January 22, 2016 will mark the 43rd anniversary of the legalization of abor-tion in our country. Since that time over 57,000,000 babies have died from abor-tion. Today, abortion is still the leading cause of death in the United States and around the world. Birth Choice has been defending the sanctity of life almost 27 years now. We are committed to standing in the gap for God’s unborn children. Will you stand with us?

We will have bulletin inserts available for all churches interested. We will also have speakers available who can share with your church congregation, Sunday School class, or mission group regarding the abortion issue and the Birth Choice min-istry. If your church is interested, please contact us about any of these powerful tools which will challenge God’s people to “Defend the poor and fatherless; do jus-tice to the afflicted and the needy. Deliver the poor and needy; free them from the hand of the wicked.” Psalm 83:3,4.

2016 Fundraising Banquet on April 14th Our guest speaker this year will be Kirk Walden, one of the country’s most sought after prolife banquet speakers. Make plans to join us for an evening filled with humor, challenge, vision and hope. Mark your calendar today!

Each woman who comes to Birth Choice for a pregnancy test and/or ultrasound will be asked to fill out a very short exit interview before she leaves. She can simply circle yes or no to answer several brief questions about her experience here, but we do leave a space for her to make a short comment if she would like. I’m always amazed how many of our clients will take the time to write something. One of the most satis-fying parts of my job is the opportunity I have to read all those wonderful comments. They bless my heart and I think they will bless yours, too.

JUST A FEW OF THE THINGS SOME OF OUR CLIENTS HAVE SHARED WITH US:

“I love how the staff here has such a great love for God and that they are so caring. They are awesome.”

“Seeing my little blessing [through ultra-sound] makes me want it even more. I loved everything; the staff is wonderful!”

“The people are very caring…they treat you like family.”

“I felt so comfortable and was able to re-lease a few tears to better help me cope with my situation.”

“I really love how the staff made me feel comfortable and not scared. It helps to know that you can talk to somebody.”

“Seeing a living thing in me makes me feel joyful. I love that everyone is welcoming and sweet. They are very kind and excited and care about the wellbeing of you and your child.”

“The people at Birth Choice were not judgmental…they actually care about your choices.”“I was able to find another support system here…this is a wonderful environment.”

“Seeing the little tiny baby is a wonderful thing. I like that everyone is so supportive and kind and Christian.“The nurse was great. She answered all questions I had and explained everything on the ultrasound. Seeing the baby made me feel so happy….”

FROM ABORTION-DETERMINED CLIENTS WHO CAME TO BIRTH CHOICE:

“I am carrying a little beautiful being with a strong heartbeat. I appreciate the kindness, love and respect I was treated with.”

“The ultrasound made me 100% sure I’m going to parent. They can help you make a good decision.”

“Coming to Birth Choice helped me to see things differently…. It helped me more on my decision. It made me want to keep my baby.”

“It was good just to have someone who listened and didn’t judge me. I loved just seeing my baby move.”

“The people at Birth Choice are beautiful inside and out…. I came in undecided about keeping my baby. Now I’m happy to be a mother of two. I’m keeping my baby.”“Looking at my baby on ultrasound made me realize that I couldn’t harm it.”

“They helped me think about more options. Seeing the ultrasound made me reconsider abortion. I loved that everyone was support-ive and considerate.”

“They made me realize how precious the little life is growing inside me. Everyone is very friendly calm and supportive. I felt comfortable here.”

“It helped me look deeper for a decision…because I saw a living human.”

The common denominator in the ex-perience of all those who come to Birth Choice is that sweet one-on-one sup-port they have with the godly women who volunteer here. As our volunteer advocates and nurses share the love of Christ and the gospel with our clients, God moves in mighty ways. We would love to have you join us here at Birth Choice. You’ll be amazed how God can use YOU to touch and save lives. Our next client advocate/nurses training will be in February. See page 6 for details!

From the Heart of a VolunteerRuth Hopper, Client Advocate

It took me a long time to get to Birth Choice. Every time I’d hear about Birth Choice and volunteering, I’d feel a twinge, but the time just

wasn’t right back then. I was a single mom with two sons. They were absolutely my number one priority as long as they were at home. I was teaching and active in church as well. It was a very busy time of life. When my sons were gone and leading their own very busy lives and the time for me to leave the classroom arrived, I wasn’t sure what God had planned. My pastor assured me that if I was willing, God would make clear what He wanted. That be-came an awesome time of spiritual growth, peace, rest, and contentment unlike any I’d ever known. From time to time, a friend who volunteered at Birth Choice would drop comments about the ministry into our conversation. Finally, she stopped hinting and came right out and said she thought I should pray about volunteering. She said that every time she prayed about volunteers for Birth Choice, God made her think of me. I finally came in for an application the day Client Advocate training was to start and heard Chris Veteto, the director and a per-sonal friend say, “I just want to know what took you so long, Ruth!” I remember that I was scared to death the day I had my first client until God reminded me that it wasn’t about me. He would tell me what to say. I have to say that other than being a mom, this has been the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. Hold-ing a beautiful baby whose mother came to Birth Choice planning an abortion is inde-scribable, just as is having a young mother accept Christ as her Savior. Being part of this ministry is an incredible blessing for which I am daily thankful.”

“We must help women consider who they really protect by holding on to their secrets. By covering up the lie that abortion doesn’t hurt women, society’s beliefs are reinforced that women are unaffected by the choice. Remaining silent keeps them in the darkness of the lie, but freedom comes in exposing it. By offering a bold invitation to freedom and healing, we are breaking

the power of secrecy that the enemy has held women under for a long time”. -PAT LAYTON, SURRENDERING THE SECRET

“As the words rolled off my tongue and out of my mouth, a battle was raging inside me! I thought, “Who is this speaking and why am I sharing this?” In my head I could hear what can only be ex-plained as war sounds. The sound was so loud I could barely make out the words I was speaking. It was our usual Sunday night small group meeting and we had just finished reading a chapter in a book called ‘From Anxious to Peaceful: Conquering Your Fears’. Every-one was sharing their different thoughts and when it came to me I was going to talk about my fear of the unknown. But, God!! He had something else altogether planned! I found myself sharing a secret that I had kept tucked neatly away for over 20 years. I could count on one hand the number of people that knew about this secret and it was my intention to keep it that way. But, God!

For the last 14 years I have felt God leading me to serve in the min-istry field and I knew it had something to do with girls/women con-sidering their options for an unexpected pregnancy. Over the years I had ignored this calling and whenever I would consider the idea, I would come up with some excuse. Now, however, I find myself in a position where the only excuse I have left is me and my fear of the “unknown”! “I don’t think I can do this, I want to and I know You are calling me to do this, but how can you use me?” I proclaimed! I cannot continue to turn a blind eye, I have no more excuses.

Back at our small group, as I finished sharing, a friend spoke up without hesitation and said I needed to go to Birth Choice. She spoke of the M.E.R.C.Y. Program and even volunteered to call Chris, the director, for me. I was frozen. What had I said? What were the words that came out of my mouth? I WANTED TO TAKE THEM BACK! I felt embarrassed, ashamed, broken. I knew God wanted me

to do this, no doubt, but how in my present shape? I couldn’t even help myself!

Two days passed before I got the courage to call Chris. Her voice on the other end of the call was so welcoming, loving and under-standing. She had been praying I would call. She told me about the M.E.R.C.Y. Program and scheduled my first meeting with Kelly, the director of the program. I was scared and excited not knowing what God had in store. All I knew for sure was that I was finally follow-ing His lead! From my first meeting to the last, I realized more and more that God’s timing and plans are always better than our own! I knew He had been calling me into this ministry, but what I didn’t know is that the ministry was also my path to healing; to reclaim that which had been taken from me! With Kelly by my side and God in our hearts, I began my journey. One that I hadn’t realized I needed, but am so thankful I traveled!!

As I think back to that Sunday night in our small group at church, I realize now the “war sounds” I was hearing was the cracking in the walls that I had built up around this dark secret in my life. It was the sound of chains being broken from a heart bound to fear, shame, blame, sorrow, and brokenness. It was the beginning, MY beginning; I was being SET FREE!

I thank God for all He is doing through the different ministries offered through Birth Choice, but I hold a special place in my heart now for Kelly and the M.E.R.C.Y. Program. God knew I needed it in order for me to fully carry out the call He has on my life. His light shined into my darkness and in doing so, I can now shine His life and light to others!”

Surrendering the Secret is a Bible study we use in our abortion recovery program at Birth Choice. The program is called M.E.R.C.Y. which stands for Mothers Experiencing Regret for Children of Yesterday. It is designed specifically for women

who struggle with abortion in their past and it’s led by women who have found God’s healing from their own past abor-tion. Below is the testimony of one woman’s journey to freedom through the M.E.R.C.Y. Program:

The Stone CovenantWe’ve all heard it said that sitting in a church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than sitting in a garage makes you a car. How true. We encounter people who profess to be Christians, yet bear no fruit in their lives. About 95% of our clients indicate on their admission forms that they are Christians, yet they are engaging in sexual sin, fornication, or adultery. Perhaps the church isn’t addressing the consequences of sin outside of the covenant of mar-riage between a man and a woman. Perhaps they are and the young people are simply choosing not to listen to God’s truth.

A few years ago, we began to address this issue in a specific way which led to the creation of the Stone Covenant. This is a unique program designed to tackle the tough subject of remaining pure as a Christian living in a secular sex-saturated world.

The Stone Covenant presents the journey of a young girl, from mid-dle school to college, as she navigates the paths caused by compro-mising her purity. A seemingly innocent kiss left unchecked leads to intimacy, sex outside the covenant of marriage, and ultimately a decision that she will forever regret.

The Stone Covenant presentation is designed for church youth groups in middle and high school. After the presentation, a ques-tion and answer session is provided with the girls and boys sepa-rated, so that the fears of asking tough questions are diminished.

A six-week Stone Covenant Bible study is available for youth pastors to provide a deeper walk into the importance of purity. This study delves into each stage of the young girl’s journey, with poignant questions geared to alter the youth’s perspective of their own purity.

It is our desire to spread the message of purity and God’s designed covenant of sexual purity before marriage to our Christian youth. If you are interested in the Stone Covenant for your youth, call T.C. Talley or Kim Mayer at 664-8443.

When you purchase the “Choose Life” specialty plate, you will support the choice of life in two ways:

• First, you’re telling everyone who follows you down the highway that you “Choose Life” and they should, too!

• Secondly, the proceeds from the Choose Life plate are used to provide support and assistance to women and families facing difficult or unexpected pregnancies. Each quarter, Birth Choice will receive a portion of those proceeds. Those donations will grow and grow as pro-life Tennesseans show their support.

Praise Reports for Answered Prayers Since Our Last Newsletter

»We are once again able to give each woman a pair of handmade booties when she receives a positive pregnancy test. This is possible because several women stepped up to the plate to crochet literally dozens and dozens of beautiful little baby booties for our new moms and their unborn children. What an extraordinary labor of love. Knowing these ladies are also praying for our babies while they are crocheting is simply icing on the cake. Thank you, sweet sisters, may the Lord richly bless you!

»Our Men’s Ministry needed to purchase a $600.00 curriculum called Inside Out Dad to reach men who will soon be transition-ing out of prison to go home to their families. A gentleman stepped forward to underwrite this entire need. Thanks to this man’s generosity, we will be able to impact men for Christ. God bless you sir!

»If washers and dryers came with odometers, ours probably would have over 100,000 miles on them by now. A dear friend of the Birth Choice ministry knew of our need for a new set even before we had a chance to publish it and gave us brand new appliances; what a surprise and a blessing;. Thank you, dear lady, you and God know who you are!

YOU HAVE NOT BECAUSE YOU ASK NOTWe are so grateful for those of you who have given of their time, their services, and material donations to sup-port Birth Choice. For others who may be looking for tangible ways to support this ministry, below are listed our current needs. If you are able to help with any of these needs, please call the Jackson office at 731:664.8443. Ask for Chris or Pat.

NEEDS: »The wrought iron railing that sur-

rounds our porches and handicapped ramps is badly in need of a coat of paint. We prefer this to be done by

adults with painting experience.

»Someone to underwrite the cost of exterior paint for wrought iron railing surrounding our porches and handi-

capped ramps.
