Merrittonian involvedin new free-fall record

Pilot & former Merrittonian DylanTodd, along with co-worker Nick Beale,took part in the secret mission in Roswell,NM where Google senior exec Alan Eu-stace plummeted 135,908’ towards Earth,setting a new world record for highest free-fall parachute jump. Eustace rode a hot airballoon up near the top of the stratosphereand free-fell for 4.5 min., acheiving peakspeed of 822 mph, and breaking the soundbarrier. He landed 15 min. after detachingfrom the balloon, approx. 70 mi. from thelaunch site. This jump beats Felix Baum-gartner’s from 128,100’ on Oct. 14, 2012.

Edmonton Skydive, the companyDylan & Nick work for, had the ideal air-craft & experienced staff to be part of themission's reconnaissance flight team. Therewas a confidentiality agreement, and onlythe 2 pilots knew what was going on.

Flying a 2011 Kodiak, Dylan & Nickwere in charge of locating Eustace once hedeployed his parachute. They sat backand waited at about 12,000’, and when theparachute opened they had to drop theother skydiver right over top of Eustace toguide him to the landing area.

Dylan said, "I miss the group of guysI got to know over the last 2 weeks.They're the best of the best. About 50people, all absolute experts in their field,and all extremely friendly people. "
