Beautiful day for a country run Morethan 300 participants took part in Sundays

new Auditor General for Local Govern-ment (AGLG) has put Merritt on its listfor a local government performance inmanaging policing agreements and po-lice budget oversight came out of the

blue, according to Merritts CAO MattNoble. No, there was no contact be-tween the City and the AGLGs officeprior to the announcement.

In fact, the City of Merritt was not infavour of the establishment of the officeof the AGLG at all.

But the audit will go ahead, thoughNobles not sure what the parameters ofthe review are to be. He says that if theylook through the Citys files, theyll findthat council & staff have done their duediligence on the Citys contract with theRCMP. To the letter of the law.

But, he intimated that if the auditorsare able to go through RCMP files, theymay better be able to pinpoint whetheror not the police are working on areas ofconcern outlined by mayor and council.

And while only the policing contractwill be reviewed, some citizens welcomethe news as they believe the auditors willcertainly get wind of other concerns,such as ever-increasing public spendingand planning based on unrealisticallyhigh predictions of future needs.
