After more than 34 years of service,MYFRS will no longer be servicing theMinistry of Children & Family Develop-ment contracts, with its 8 programs: sup-ported child development, familysupport, children with special needs,family preservation, speech pathology,supportive visitation, the teen centre,and youth justice.

MYFRS will be restructuring and willcontinue to provide community servicein order to meet local needs. Please keepan eye out for their update of servicesavailable to the community. The valuesand local connections established by the

board and staff will be utilized to assistin recognizing current community needs.

Board expertise includes mentalhealth, child protection, city council ex-perience, social/income assistance, pub-lic health services, First Nation health,social worker certification and priorwork with the MCFD, 12 years experi-ence with our board and extensive net-work with local agencies.

MYFRS purpose has been and willcontinue to be an inclusive client-drivenservice provider. MYFRS will continue to

work in co-operation with other serviceproviders.Staff and leadership of all involved

agencies would like to thank the commu-nity, and particularly the families whorely on these services, for their under-standing during this time of transition.

Interior Community Services will belocated at 2187 A Coutlee Avenue, andwill begin on April 2nd, 2013. MYFRSwill work closely with ICS and both part-nering agencies to facilitate a smoothtransition of programming.

Salmon: BCs newfish emblem

The Pacific salmon has been desig-nated the official provincial fish emblemto recognize their high ecological, cul-

tural and economic significance to BritishColumbians.The designation of Pacific salmon is

limited to seven salmonid species of thegenus Oncorhynchus native to BC wa-ters - all of which are included under asingle overarching symbol. Included inthis group are sockeye, chinook, coho,pink and chum salmon, as well as steel-head and cutthroat trout. Using the

broader definition of Pacific salmon rec-ognizes not one but seven of these im-portant fish.

The Provincial Symbols and HonoursAct lists the following as representativesymbols for the province: 1956 Pacificdogwood adopted as BC's official floralemblem; 1968 Jade adopted as the officialmineral emblem; 1974 Five-colour offi-cial provincial tartan adopted; 1987

Steller's jay adopted as official bird; 1988- Western red cedar adopted as officialtree; 2006 Spirit bear adopted as officialmammal; and 2013 Pacific salmonadopted as B.C.'s official fish emblem.
