Merrimack Valley Quilters Guild Encouraging the art of quilting in the Merrimack Valley. MVQ was established in 1980.
June 2020
President's Message
It certainly has been a challenging year. After a
successful quilt show and UFO auction, the pandemic
hit forcing us to shelter in place. Not able to gather as a group posed serious problems with finding nominees for our next Executive Committee and subsequent vote. However, the board was able to work together, through virtual board meetings, to find solutions. And after a successful vote, we have an elected Executive Committee for fiscal year 2020-2021. Congratulations to our newly elected Executive Committee. The governor continues to ban large group
gatherings. Therefore, we had to cancel all guild
meetings through June and, subsequently, the quilt
show in October. The financial impact of cancelling
the quilt show, along with the selling of tickets for our
raffle quilt, will have an impact on next years budget.
The board does not see any income for at least the
next six months. However, the available cash we do
have should help to support us until the next quilt
show in 2021
Until the Governor’s ban is lifted, we will not be able
to meet. And when the ban is lifted, the board will
seriously need to consider the guidelines and
conditions proposed to determine if meetings will be
possible. Until that time, we hope you have a warm
and safe summer. Hopefully, we will see you in the
fall.

Membership News
The MVQ Membership Committee has been given permission to extend your membership through
December, 2020. Please DO NOT send any membership forms for the time being.
Around that time, we will decide how to proceed from there. With all the problems with the Corona
Virus, we realize that getting together at this time, and may be into the fall, is difficult. We miss you all
and hope you are well and quilting your way through this trying time.
It is with great excitement I tell you that your new Membership Chair is Linda Lydecker. Take care and
stay well,
Bev Valle, Outgoing Membership Chair
From your Outgoing V.P.
Thank you all for a great year - the months we were able to get together and even those we
weren't. I hope you are all staying safe and well - these are strange times to be sure. Good
time to do lots of sewing! I know I'm getting a lot of UFO's caught up - hopefully we'll be
together for the auction to stock up again - we will certainly run out of fabric, won't we?
Don't forget to keep supporting your local quilt shops during these times too.
This past year, we were able to donate over 70 quilts between the Highpointe House
(Hospice House in Haverhill) and Believe Everything and Anything is Possible for patients
undergoing chemo treatments. Thanks to Bev Valle, a new dragonfly quilt was made for
Highpointe House which drapes their patients during their final journey from the House. It
is a beautiful and beloved tribute and so appreciated by the families. This quilt also won
the Viewer's Choice ribbon at our show! Amazing job to all of you who make the lives of
other people so much better. It is heartwarming to see what a quilt can do in so many
ways! Heartfelt thanks from all of us!
Bev Valle will be taking over as your new VP and will do an amazing job as she always
does. She will guide you as to how comfort quilts for the coming year will be handled.
Given that the future is still so uncertain, she may continue next year with Foster Kids of
Merrimack Valley or select a second organization to make quilts for. We just don't know
when we will all be able to meet again - hopefully it's sooner rather than later and when
donations can be made to the selected organization. The same is true of the President's
Blocks. It's been difficult to collect them when we're not meeting, but Bev will also guide
you on how she will proceed with that. I have given her the extra kits and instructions, so
watch the next newsletter for an update.
The good news is that we have a lot of extra door prizes to start next year with!!!!
And lastly and personally, thank you all for the opportunity to serve as your VP and prior
to that your Program Chair. They have both been rewarding positions for me and your
support has made it a pleasure. I have learned even more what I already knew - this is a
very special Guild.
Please stay safe and well and we will gather again when the time is right!
Ronnie

News from our raffle quilt
Last month it was decided by the board that the drawing our beautiful Jubilee quilt will
not be held until we finally get to have our quilt show. With the end of the big shows at
Mancuso and MQX, we have lost our greatest sources of revenue from our raffle quilt. As
we move forward from this pandemic, I urge you to think about other events that might
come in the fall and winter. Local community events, church and school events, and
farmers’ markets are just a few ideas. Think outside the box for places we could participate
in that are local. Contact Judy at [email protected], phone 978.352.2210, or text
978.476.2525 if you have any ideas.
Another way that we could make some sales is if each of us took a few books of tickets
and sold them to our friends and families when we are finally able to visit with them. If you
are interested and willing, Judy will connect with you and give you some tickets. One
anonymous member has started this by requesting some tickets from me.
Stay well and I look forward to seeing you in the future.

MVQ PROGRAMS 2020 2021
******************************************************************************************
As we continue is this era of pandemic and social distancing I hope everyone finds time to take care of
themselves and maybe do some fun sewing.
Next year we have three speakers tentatively planned for March, April, and May. The board is planning to
evaluate the budget and the local circumstances over the Winter to determine if we will be able to hold the
programs we have scheduled. More information will follow after this determination.
The speakers that are planned are:
March: Amy Friend ( https://duringquiettime.com/ )
April: Sheri Cifaldi-Morril ( https://www.wholecirclestudio.com/ )
May: Pat Harrison ( https://www.oceanwavesqc.com/ )
Our limited programs schedule will make it even easier to be Programs Chairperson! All of the teachers are
taking care of their own transportation and lodging so all you have to do is give them a hand at meetings when
they give their lectures, and help with workshops. The workshop help could even be delegated to someone who
has signed up for the class, making your job even simpler! Wrangle a few of your friends into forming a
Programs Committee and you may only have responsibilities at one meeting!
Merrimack Valley Quilters has a strong reputation in the area for bringing world class quilters to teach for our
guild. If no one steps up to be next year’s Programs Chairperson, there will be no lectures or workshops in the
2021-2022 year. Please support the guild and consider serving in this valuable position.
Have a great summer!
Heather

New England Quilt Museum
During these uncertain times, it remains important to take a look at what we value and ensure it doesn’t
disappear. As quilters, we enjoy and appreciate the programs and services the New England Quilt Museum has
to offer. While the museum is currently closed, it will be open before long.
We are encouraging all of our members to become members of the museum and show our financial support.
The membership form can be found on our website along with a link to the museum. Please consider joining or
renewing your membership. Any questions, let me know. I am your museum representative.
Thank you. Diane Kelley
