Philip M. M erikleUniversity of W aterloo Eyal M. ReingoldUniversity of TorontoS. C. Draine and A. G. Greenwald (1998) ha ve described a m ethodology based on regressionanalysis for demonstrating unconscious perception. They h ave suggested that their methodol-ogy represents a ma jor improve me nt ov er exist ing m ethodologies. An analysis o f theirmethodology reveals that it is closely related to the classic dissociation paradigm. As such, interpretation of their results is compromised by the sa me issues concerning the m easurementof awareness that have plagued all previous at tempts to use the dissociation paradigm todemonstrate unconscious perception in the complete absence of conscious perception.
