Director’s Notes

Welcome to our show! The Music Man has always been special to me. It was the first Actorsingers show my parents took me to see back in 1975. I remember kicking and screaming and not wanting to go, but my mother assured me I’d like it. And you know what? I did - I loved it! The whole nostalgia thing was fun…and at the time, I was in the Nashua High Band, so the connection to a marching band kinda hit home for me. I joined Actorsingers a few years after that and have been a member since. Actorsingers did The Music Man again in 1987. I designed the sets that year – the show was directed by Steve Norris, my high school band director and John Liljeberg who also had worked with the band. When Actorsingers announced we would be doing it again this year, I put my name in for consideration as director – and was thrilled I was chosen. I have truly enjoyed working on this old chestnut and have enjoyed the talent and artistry of the wonderful cast and production and technical teams. But mostly I’ve enjoyed the great memories this show brings back - of folks like my late father, who pushed me and my siblings into music and the late John Liljeberg who suggested I give the Actorsingers a try……

I hope our show brings a smile to your face as it has for me for all these years!

Recent productions: Les Miserables (Actorsingers), Sister Sophia in Sound of Music (Majestic), Party Guest (MAP), Magic Flute (JE Workshop) & Melany's Melodies (solo concert). Thanks and love to her favorite patrons of the arts - Mom and Dad!

Sarina White (youth ensemble) - Sarina White is very glad to be part of the kids ensemble. She is 12 years old and this is her first show with the Actorsingers. She also loves to horseback ride and read. She would like to thank all of her directors, family and friends for their support! She hopes you all have a wonderful evening and enjoy the show!

Dan Wolaver (Olin Britt) - I've been singing barbershop music since 1970 and love all forms of a cappella singing. In 2001 I joined the Souhegan Valley Chorus, and since 2008 I've been singing in A La Carte—a mixed a cappella quartet.

Production Team Biographies

Martha Daniels Holland (choreographer) - This year marks 27 years Martha has been actively participating in Actorsingers productions and with the organization. Her first show was The Music Man in 1987 and it made such an impact on her that she has been involved in nearly all of the productions, in one way or another, ever since. She met her husband Jed here during Music Man when he was playing piano and she was one of the dancers. Now she takes great pleasure in choreographing shows but still enjoys being onstage occasionally. Their five children are all

participating in this production which makes this show even more special. She's also excited to have their exchange student Ismael, from Chile, as one of the dancers in this show. By day, she is a full-time Realtor with RE/MAX Properties and loves her work. Martha is extremely grateful to the Actorsingers for giving her this opportunity to work on a special show with her whole family. Much love to Jed for his patience and for 'counting' when she gets mixed up :) Endless love and appreciation to her children who also enjoy working on shows. Finally, she sends her love and thanks to family and friends who always show their support. It's truly appreciated! Enjoy the show! Happy Mother's Day to all the moms, but especially to my mom. LYMTTCT.

Kathy Lovering (director) - Kathy has been involved in local community theatre for the past 35 or so years, working with all ages, from toddlers in church pageants to members of the Nashua Senior Center. Kathy is a life member of the Actorsingers where she has tried just about everything. She has directed such shows as Guys & Dolls, Brigadoon, The Wiz, and The Producers, has designed sets, stage managed, produced several shows & has performed in many. Years ago, she was instrumental in the formation of the Teen Actorsingers and has directed several

shows for them. She has served on the Actorsingers Board of Directors as president, secretary, vice-president and director. Actorsingers has presented Kathy with the Penny Award, the Life Member Award, and the Actorsingers Hall of Fame Award. During the day, she is an insurance agent at Foy Insurance in Nashua and is married to Bob (who she met in an Actorsingers production 28 years ago!) Their daughters Emily, an RN, & Madeline, a chef, have also been involved with the group for many years. Kathy is so very thankful for the help & support received from all of her behind-the-scenes friends who made this show possible….and to the fun and wonderfully talented cast she has had the pleasure to work with! Vous êtes le meilleur !!

Jed Holland (music director) - See Martha (and change pronouns as needed)

Jenn Morton and Michelle Morrison (co-producers) - Michelle & Jenn are grateful for this opportunity to try something new, and for that they thank their children, Grace & Ben. If not for the kids' love of theater, they would not have met this amazing cast and crew. They have made many friends and laughed often with Actorsingers pals. Thanks for the memories! Enjoy the show, and remember, if it's not fun, why do it?

Production Team Biographies

Dennis Schneider (technical director) - Dennis is proud to have been part of our Tech Team since 1984 – this is his 53rd Actorsingers mainstage production. Dennis is a 7-time recipient of New Hampshire Theatre Awards for lighting and set design. His work was recently seen in our productions of Les Miserables, Chicago, Annie, Cats, 42nd Street, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Ragtime. Dennis also chairs the City of Nashua’s Auditorium Commission. Dennis owes his involvement in theater technology to his wife Kerry and her acting career – working backstage provides a great way to spend time with her!

Deb Ritrovato (stage manager - Deb is happy to be back stage-managing again with Actorsingers after a long hiatus due to work constraints. It’s too bad that real life often gets in the way of fun. She would like to thank the directors, producers and technical crew for all their hard work and patience. Thanks also to the cast who have been a pleasure to work with. A Special Thanks to Tom and Gracie for all their love and support! Couldn't have done it without you!

John McAllister (set design) - A long-time member and past President of Actorsingers, and recipient of the NHTA Lifetime Achievement Award, John was Tech Director for Curtains, and set designer for Les Miserables, Annie, Aida, Anything Goes, The Producers, Beauty & the Beast, Evita, Cats (NHTA Winner Best Set Design), and many others. John has worked on many aspects of shows (sets, lighting, stage-craft), and has held many positions within the organization.

Tom Ritrovato (stage manager) - Tom is pleased to be working crew for another great Actorsingers show. The best part is being paired up with his wife - Deb.

Raelene Liljeberg (costume design) - A 47 year veteran of Actorsingers, Life Member, "Penny" Award and "Liljeberg-Badeau" Award recipient, past Board member. Maintains the wardrobe department, costume rentals to various area theatre groups, schools and summer stock productions. My husband, John, directed The Music Man in 1987, and this is my third time costuming this production. A very big thank you to the costume committee for all their hours of work on these costumes and congratulations to a talented cast!

Craig Brennan (lighting design) - Craig is pleased to return to Actorsingers for Music Man, having previously lit Les Miserables, Curtains, Annie, Aida, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Seussical, Cats, Oklahoma, and others. Craig has been extensively involved in lighting for local theater groups, including Stagecoach Productions and Ghostlight Theater, and professionally at Yellow Taxi Productions, American Stage Festival, Lyric Stage Company and Publick Theatre in Boston, and Pirate Stage Company in New York.
