Letter From The Editor
Happy New Year Everyone!
Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and got
some wicked presents.
We have been busy here at Merciless Beauty
preparing the first issue for 2014.
We have been gathering so many submissions for this issue, our email in-
box has been swamped, especially for our Cover Model Competition.
Which attracted so much attention, and rightly went to the lovely Kyra
Tomko who stood out so much we couldn't help but put her where she
rightly deserves to be.
We also have a feature on Kyra , an interesting lady and hope you enjoy
reading about her.
We have such a mixture of work in this magazine which is what we always
aimed for, a fresh mix of everything going on in the creative industry right
now.
We have some fresh new talent and some old faces gracing the pages.
So pop that kettle on, grab a biscuit and indulge yourself.
Much Love
Raven-Lily
Kyra Tomko - Cover Girl At what point did you decide you wanted to be a model?
- It began between the ages of 5-8 yrs old ; strangers would constantly stop me and my parents to pay me a compli-
ment and mention that I should consider becoming a model. At such a young age I thought nothing of it, I figured everyone was just being polite. Although, the more this oc-
curred the more I found myself thinking about it. I came to the conclusion that it was just a typical "American Dream". You know... the one that everyone wants that almost never happens: " I want to be famous/rich/a star/ a supermodel etc." The little voice inside my head would laugh and say " Come on, let's be a little more realistic.. I mean really." Yet, the thought of this dream always remained in the back of my mind and something inside al-
ways yearned for more. My first photo-shoot was at 15 years old. Everything came naturally and went very smoothly. The passion for modelling generously fed my creative needs and the complete feeling of satisfaction is
what gave me the indication that this was what I wanted to do. And so the journey begins.
You are 5ft 4ins which in "modelling" terms is considered rather short, I feel like you are breaking down the huge barri-ers for other people who may be under the standard height for Fashion. Did your height prove to be an obstacle when
trying to introduce yourself in the professional modelling industry?
- My height has proved to be an obstacle since the very beginning. My abilities are almost always underestimated because of how short I'm considered in the fashion industry. I believe that passion and intent are two things that will determine how far anyone will succeed with anything. Many young girls have their dreams crushed from the very start - numerous people will tell them they will never become a model because of their height. Those people aren't important; Do not pay attention
to anyone that will doubt you. A real go-getter will smile and reply "Watch Me," hold their head up high, strut their stuff and prove their doubters wrong.
What advice would you pass along to those starting out in the business?
- You need to have thick-skin, love yourself & embrace your flaws. Most of all, dare to be different.
What is the ultimate goal of your career?
- My ultimate goal is to help fight against heightism, demolish the minimum height rule in the fashion industry and be-come a successful role model to other inspiring petite models. All this along with fashion world domination of course ;)
What has been your favourite modelling experience this far?
- My favourite modelling experience will always be when I landed my first fashion cover. In Oct 2012 (19yrs old) I was the
cover model for Solis Magazine based in NYC. Sometimes it's hard to receive the reassurance we need to know we're on the right path. Well, this was mine.
What do you like to do when you are not modelling?
- When I'm not modelling, I'm either working or planning future projects. In between this I like to read Vogue & other fash-
ion magazines, visit with friends/family/the bf, karaoke, eat lots of good food (with bacon in it of course) & catch up on my
sleep when possible (I'm an insomniac in the summer & I hibernate during the winter).
