1994 Fish Shirt

The Fish Shirt was first given as a gift to Nelson Mandela in 1994 by Desré Buirski. She handed it to his bodyguard with a note saying “Thank you for everything you have done and all the sacrifices you have made for our beloved country”. The design was inspired by Desre’s Father, who used to fish in Cape Town. Nelson Mandela wore this shirt on the 11th of May 1990 to the dress rehearsal of the opening of Parliament.


Finish:Available in Black, Blue and Brown, short and long sleeve.100% viscose. The 1994 Fish Shirt is a long-sleeved shirt with a non-fused collar, single cuff, and a front pocket. The 100% viscose fabric is made by hand-wax-stamp-batik techniques which leaves every shirt unique and slightly different. Viscose is comfortable, soft to the skin and absorbent which makes it an ideal summer fabric. This shirt comes in a classic casual fit, to be worn untucked.
