PTE Meragang Student Magazine : 2014 Issue
The coaches and I have been through
good and bad times together and
faced many problems but we
managed to go ‘through the wall’. We
were trained very hard and at the end,
everything was worth it and ‘priceless’.
PTE Meragang celebrated its Sport Day on 26th of
April. PTE Meragang sets its Sport Day every two years.
There are .Sport Houses involved in the event which is
Indera Mahkota, Indera Wijaya, Indera Putera and Indera
Pahlawan. Many sport activities were organised on that
day. The day started with a march past from each sport
house. After the principal of PTE Meragang, Hjh
Hashimawati binti Hj Mohamad gave her speech, each
sport house made their own field performances. The
situation was quite exciting and was given a great response
from the students and the teachers. After that, the show
continued with 100m, 400m, 4x100m and 4x400m races.
Lastly, there was also an invitation to another school which
was Maktab Sains, Sayyidina Abu Bakar Secondary
school, Pap Masnah Secondary school and Pehin Datu
Seri Maharaja Mentiri secondary school to compete with
us. Finally, prize giving and medals were given at the
closing ceremony. Indera Pahlawan was declared the
champions

Almost all of the schools, colleges and ministries participated in the event including our school. As a coach, I experienced many things. I learned how to be responsible, respect other people and how to work as part of a team. The most important thing I learned was how to be a good leader. I got to know many people, even if we didn’t have the same religion but we were united as one.

On the 11th June this year, just before the
second term holiday started, the Meragang Sixth Form Centre’s Care Club launched Red Day. The campaign was held to raise awareness of hungry children and also for the students to be aware about the importance of foods and not wasting the food. The staff and students of the Meragang Sixth Form Centre wore Red T-Shirts to show their support for the event. A few stalls opened during that day, some of which sold food and some other things red in colour. The money raised was used to buy food and the food was then given to underprivileged students at some of the public schools in this country.

The Meragang Sixth Form Centre (PTEM) has been conducting Tazkirah Belia Islami for these past six month. The Tazkirah Belia Islami has been organized by the Religious Department from both Student Council and Peer Support Group (PRS) and also PTEM’s Counseling Unit. The purpose of doing so is to spread and remind Muslim students in PTEM about the good value of Islam. One member of TBI, Nur Fatin Faizah Binti Jaya of A24 believes strongly that this will help everyone in uplifting their spiritual and inner self with hope that the messages delivered will increase their spiritual well-being and be a motivation of practising Islam on a daily basis. There were five talks delivered by the organizers, “Rukun Islam”, “Mengingati Mati”, “Ubati Hati”, “Cinta Allah, Cinta Rasuldan Cinta IbuBapa” and “Kesihatan adalah Anugerah”. The latest talk of Tazkirah was entitled “Kesihatan adalah Anugerah” or Health is a Gift, by Awangku Amirul ‘Ammar Safwan bin Pengiran Omar. The next topic will be about “Ramadan Al Mubarak” by Mursyedah to celebrate the fasting month.
Before the talk, the organizers plan and research thoroughly in books including using the internet medium and filter the slideshow before presenting every Tazkirah and they also do a check after Tazkirah. Other than that, the audience will be given a survey to give their feedback, comments and also suggestions for the next Tazkirah so that the organizers can analyze and improve it.
In the future, the Tazkirah will be held every week to give opportunities to the Junior Student Council and also the Peer Support Group.

PTEM’s Vocal Harmony club recently took part in Brunei’s Choir Festival “Big Sing” 2014 at Jerudong International School in April. We attended the festival and sang our hearts out for three consecutive days. The songs that were sung were mostly top hits and evergreens such as “Let It Go” by Idina Menzel from the blockbuster movie Frozen and “You Raise Me Up” by Westlife. next year We also sang a Traditional Bruneian song “Chabok Chabok Bertali Rambai” and performed an acapella cover of “We Are Young” as an individual performance at the festival taught by our very
own Vocal Harmony teachers Miss Sheena and Mr Ben. Our parents as part of our audience were thrilled to be there to support us on the last day of the festival. We gained so much knowledge from this event due to the fact that all of us were and are passionate about singing. Not only that, we also learned how to boost our confidence level and overcome our stage fright. It was a great experience for all of us. We had a blast and we hope to come back By Siti Rafhanah bte Nor Hasnul B12
A total of eight teams represented Pusat Tingkatan Enam Meragang for the Science InIslam
Project Exhibition for Cluster 6 which was held from 22nd
April 2014 until 24th April 2014 at Maktab
Sains Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan. The purpose of the exhibition was to highlight and elaborate Al-
Quran verses that had been scientifically proven. More than 30 teams were involved from six different
Sixth Form Centres which included Pusat Tingkatan Enam Meragang, Maktab Sains PSBS, Maktab
Duli PMAMB, Pusat Tingkatan Enam Sengkurong, Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Ali and Pusat
Tingkatan Enam Tutong. The exhibition was judged mostly based on the accuracy of the Quran
verses and the relevant scientific facts. The exhibition was open to the public for three days.
The purpose was to deepen the knowledge of Bruneians especially among the youth about the
importance of Al-Quran in the exploration of scientific facts. It was also to increase awareness among
Bruneians that Al-Quran is a reliable source of knowledge and guidance since Al-Quran was sent
down to Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam over 1400 years ago, before it was
scientifically proven by humans.

The club members of
the Japanese club
wanted to do
something for the
Deputy Principal at
PTE Meragang. She
was not feeling well,
so the Japanese club
members decided to
make the 1000 cranes
as a gift. In Japanese
culture, it is said that
if you make 1000
cranes you will get
one wish to come true. This idea was a
good example to give as a gift for the
Deputy Principal. They started the work as
soon as the idea of making the 1000 cranes
came up. They had all the members to
make the cranes and it was a good
teamwork activity. Once the 1000 cranes
were finished, they presented the gift to the
Deputy Principal and she was really happy.

On the 28th of May 2014, the PTEM
Dance Club held a modern-style dance
battle between the members of the
club. The members were selected at
random to be put into one of four
teams, and then were picked by each
team's seniors based on the styles of
dance they were doing, from K-Pop to
Lyrical Hip-Hop/Funk. Judges were
assigned to decide which team was the
most creative, the most synchronized,
and the best executed. The results
were: 1st place: Team C, 2nd: Team A,
3rd: Team D and 4th: Team B. "Even
though we were hoping for first place,
third place is good for us", said one of
the members of Team D, "at least we
gained a new experience and we had
fun along the way, and I'm looking
forward to our next battle". According to
one of the seniors of the dance club, the
battle was held in order to help its
members overcome their 'stage fright'
and also to help gain and increase their confidence and experience in such an activity and to have fun
along the way.

need to socialize with each other to get closer,’ said Cikgu Lim Kim Cheng to her students. In the
morning the students had breakfast together then this was followed by an ice breaking session
between in each classes. There were several games played such as relay runs, ripping off name tags

Lower Six Art & Design students learn to use the grid
method, which is common in creating photorealistic
paintings. We also got to improve our skills in using
acrylics on canvas. Our lesson started off with learning
the history of photorealism, the definition, and
identifying leading photorealist artists within this genre.
We were then given photorealistic paintings by famous
artists to imitate. The project lasted three weeks. Here we
were taught how to create interesting composition and
accurate proportions. Photorealism is an extremely
realistic style of painting where the art work is based
entirely on photographs, giving it a wow factor. At the
same time, we were then assigned a group project called
The Sandwich book. We were grouped in teams of five to
create a perfect sandwich using just recycled materials. All
the teams’ sandwiches were then displayed at the lobby
where the whole school got to vote on their favorite
‘sandwich’ based on quality, creativity and the realistic
look of the Sandwich book

The moment you step into sixth form, you are automatically a member of The Unlimited-Supply-of-Stress Club. We, as A-level students, face stress and an immense workload on a day-to-day basis. It is indeed a tiring part of your life. However, for one of our students here in PTE Meragang, it is just a minute part of all that she has to go through. She is just like the rest of us but with a little twist—she has cancer. Early this year, my friend Dk Seti Suzana Bte Pg Othman was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Stage 2, but the doctors were able to provide a treatment, thankfully. She has since gone through 4 cycles of chemotherapy after undergoing surgery earlier this year. She is now going through her radiotherapy treatment in Singapore. Through her entire battle, her friends and teachers here in PTE Meragang have been incredibly supportive helping her fight through all of this as much as possible. Regardless of her inability to attend her classes regularly and take her exams, Suzana makes occasional visits to school. During these visits, she goes to her classes and tries her best to catch up. She is still very keen and hopeful for her future. It is honestly very motivating to see a student suffering from such an illness have so much emotional strength and determination. She says it is due to the support and loving environment that exists in the school and at home. Everyone here in PTE Meragang wishes Suzana a quick recovery and a very bright future ahead. Stay strong, Zana.
