A. ObjectivesWithin the Georgia College Center for Student Success, I will use the skills acquired throughout the M.Ed. Higher Education Administration program to assist with the completion of four tasks.

The objective of the assigned tasks is to utilize the skills that I have gained working in the Office of Admissions and to incorporate them into the Center for Student Success. My ultimate goal is to become as knowledgeable as possible about the policies and procedures with which to properly advise a student for registration. I also hope to gain insight and the skills needed to assess and assist those students who are identified as at-risk academically. And lastly, I wish to incorporate my newly gained knowledge of the Center for Student Success into my recruitment efforts of traditional incoming freshmen.

While employed through the Office of Admissions, I have developed strong communication skills as well as the ability to assist students and their families with the admission process from interest to enrollment. I plan to share these abilities of communication and follow through in order to assist students as they progress through their college career in order to help the Center for Student Success to improve student academic success in addition to retention and graduation rates at Georgia College. I plan to use this practicum experience to explore and gain new knowledge about how students can be successful and stay on track to graduate in four years once they have enrolled at the institution. I will definitely benefit from this experience because the knowledge that I will gain will help me in my recruitment efforts of incoming freshmen as well as to meet the needs of the Center for Student Success.

My objective in learning and assisting with the advisement and registration process of undergraduate students is to expand my current knowledge of advisement procedures and policies and to use my skills of communication to support advisors and students. I will use my skills of assessment and communication to work closely with academically at-risk students to help them devise a restoration plan that will get them back on track. The challenges presented are that of learning the policies and procedures of academic advising within a short amount of time, effectively working with a select group of students to ensure their academic success, and evaluating and addressing any specific needs of the staff of the Center for Student Success and the students they work with.

The tasks are as follows and are explained in Section B:1. Observe, learn, and assist with the advisement and registration of undergraduate students2. Assist with tutorial presentations on the registration process3. Evaluate and develop personal resolution plans for members of the Council of Student Ambassadors who are on academic probation for the Spring 2015 semester4. Encourage and asses the progress of at-risk Ambassadors through programing at the tutoring center and individual follow-up session

B. Activities1. Observe current academic advisors as they hold individual advisement meetings with students in order to learn the policies and procedures of the Center for Student Success. My supervisor will provide me with current goals and strategies, and allow me to incorporate my education and experience into developing a plan that will be valuable to staff and students who use the services of the Center for Student Success. A weekly schedule will be developed immediately to ensure exposure to the various elements of the Center for Student Success including advisement, registration, and tutoring.2. Assist Academic Advisors with presentations on the registration process at various sessions held prior to registration. These sessions are hosted on several occasions in the late afternoons and evenings and are open to any student who may need assistance or a refresher on how to register for classes. I will also assist with the registration process of incoming freshmen at the annual admitted student visitation day. Incoming freshmen and returning students register for classes in different ways and knowledge on both of these methods will be beneficial when communicating with students on how to register and for what courses.3. Meet with members of the members of the Council of Student Ambassadors who are on academic probation for the Spring 2015 semester; this means they have below a 2.75 G.P.A which is the academic stand set for this student organization. With the assistance of my supervisor, I will evaluate the students weaknesses and struggles and devise an approach to assist them with improving their academic standing. In addition, each student will work with me to develop their own Resolution Plan, which myself, my supervisor and the supervisor for the Council of Student Ambassadors will hold them accountable to. My supervisor and I will discuss the progress of these students in our weekly meetings4. Encouragement and assessment of the progress of these at-risk students will be imperative to their success throughout the semester. In order to accomplish this, I will develop a plan with my supervisor and the coordinator of the Tutoring Center that will include both individual and group sessions to assist students with their academic improvement. With the Tutoring Centers help, I will be able to evaluate the effectiveness of these sessions as they relate to student success in college.

C. Products/Artifacts1. Schedule of my shadowing appointments of advisement and registration sessions2. Evaluation and updates to the Registration Tutorials that are offered3. Calendar of meetings with at-risk Ambassadors4. Examples of Resolution Plans and other forms of accountability5. Analysis of progress and completion of Resolution Plans
