2. Understand the key design safety features included in
ED renovations/expansion to reduce risk for staff and
promote safe care for hold patients awaiting placement

Tropical Storm Irene destroyed the Vermont State Psychiatric Hospital
Mental Health System was rebuilt with fewer treatment beds –
dispersed across the State in institutions with focus on community –
based services
That transition coincided with a rise in demand for mental health
treatment nationwide
