CO EXISTING DISORDER SERVICE WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM OUR SERVICES:

A specialist mental health service for pre-schoolers, children /tamariki & ado-

lescents /rangatahi and their families/whānau who are experiencing serious

mental health difficulties or co-existing disorders (mental health and sub-

stance use). CAFS provides community based MH assessments, consultation,

diagnosis and evidence- based treatment for young people and their families.

Eating Disorder clinician within this team. The service is provided throughout

the Tararua, Manawatu and Horowhenua regions.

from 18 years old suffering from a moderate to severe level of mental

illness residing in the Palmerston North region.

Supportive care/treatment during acute phases of unwellness, medica-

tion prescribing and monitoring, individual therapy e.g. DBT (Dialect Be-

haviour Therapy) , CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy), relapse preven-

MidCentral Health provides planned and unplanned respite care for mental

health or addiction service users. A Needs Assessment is required by the ser-

vice co-ordinator or the after hours Acute Care Team.

Specialist assessment and treatment for young people 14-25 years with an

identified or suspected psychotic disorder. We aim to reduce the disruption

to people’s lives by providing early intervention, community support and

education about psychosis to individuals, families / whānau. We also provide

consultation, liaison and education about the experience of psychosis to

other services in the community. We link in with other community services

such as, social, education and work related support services. We also liaise

with Māori Mental Health, Alcohol and Drugs and all other related services.

We provide individualised engagement and treatment options to those with severe and enduring mental health disorders, and for whom generic mental health teams are not in a position to meet the needs. Maternal Mental Health is a service for expectant mothers or

those up to one year following birth who are experiencing difficul-

ties with mental health and/or addictions issues.

“Maternal & Perinatal Mental Health's aim is to support women

and family/whānau experiencing such difficulties to return to op-

timum wellbeing”. Referrals are treated on a case by case basis.

STAR 1—OLDER ADULT MH

INPATIENT SETTING WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM OUR SERVICES:

Specialist assessment and treatment of older adults in a supportive and caring

environment which focuses on maintaining and strengthening existing skills

and abilities.

Star 1 Ward is for those adults who are experiencing a first presentation of

moderate to severe mental distress after the age of 65.

We have links with all other MH services and with the Supportlink assessment

team. We also offer an older adult community nursing service providing as-

sessments and follow up after discharge.

access outside of these hours.

Oranga Hinengaro is a culturally designed service for Māori by Māori.

We provide assessment, treatment and care to tangata whaiora / con-

sumers of all ages and their whānau. The service is made up of trained

medical professionals, including Kaumatua, consultant psychiatrist,

community psychiatric nurses, social workers and a clinical psycholo-

gists. Our clients include Family/Whānau - Disability - Māori - Pacific -

Youth - General - Senior Citizens. All ages.

MAORI HEALTH SERVICES Our role is to provide advice and to support you and your whānau

while you are receiving care and services at MidCentral Health—Palmerston North Hospital, Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua.

We also support hospital staff caring for you. Mauri ora!

Our Pae Ora Team visits the wards and can assist you with: Talking to staff, Understanding your care, accessing other services as appropriate, health information and treatment options, accessing Maori Health Ser-vices, e.g. Specialist Mental Health-Oranga Hinengaro & Community Health Providers.

Accommodation - Te Whare Rapuora –Temporary marae style accom-modation subject to availability for all ethnicities. Priority is for whānau/families outside of MidCentral DHB supporting critically ill/terminally ill patients. Full living facilities/communal sleeping area/laundry available. You provide your own kai and personal care toiletry items. Mon-Friday 8.30am-4.30pm. After hours please ask ward staff for referral to Pae Ora Services.

MASH administers the Luck Venue (a drop-in centre that offers day activities

for mental health consumers); provides a community support workers ser-

vice for the Manawatu and Horowhenua; an Adult Planned Respite; Hous-

ing & Recovery services daytime / night time; Supportive landlord; a thera-

peutic recreation and education programme and alcohol and other drug

addiction programmes as well as for community offenders.

YOSS - YOUTH ONE STOP SHOP

FREE counselling, health services, advice, family work for young people

aged 10 – 24 years of age who live in Palmerston North.

Early intervention alcohol & drug service for youth. Also clinical psycholo-

gist based at YOSS providing a comprehensive psychological service for

young people aged between 15-19 years.

YOSS has a walk-in health service for casual clients in Palmerston North.
