Bailey, who won three State Amateur titles within the past 10 years, shot rounds of 68, 64,

and 71, to finish at 203, 13 under par. He bogeyed only three holes and posted 16 birdies in the 54-hole event. He won by six strokes over current State Amateur champion Jake Hedge of Billings, who also posted three straight subpar rounds.

Joey Lovell of Bozeman also tied for second at 209, after a closing 68 in the final round. Defending Mid-Am champion Josh Hedge of Billings was fourth at 212, followed by Jim Bob Coleman at 215.

The Gene Cook Cup was awarded to Jake Hedge, Josh Hedge, and JimBob Coleman of Yellowstone Country Club for having the lowest two day total (two scores each day) of players competing from the same club.

Handicapping FAQs Emily Hulsey, MSGA Handicap and Website Coordinator

How Is My Handicap Index Calculated With The New World Handicap System?

Each score in your record is calculated with a formula that includes the course rating and slope of the tees you played -- (Adjusted gross score - course rat-ing - PCC) x (113/slope). This formula includes the PCC (Playing Conditions Calculation), which is a conservative adjustment to compensate for any extreme course or weather conditions that day. If a PCC adjustment was made, it will show in your record ("PCC" column).

The resulting number is known as the Handicap Differential, and is located in a column on the right of your record ("Diff "). Note that the Handicap Differ-ential can be adjusted with an ESR (Exceptional Score Reduction), or if the Handicap Committee has applied a manual adjustment. The end result would be in the far right column ("Adj Diff ").

Your Handicap Index is calculated by averaging the lowest 8 Handicap Differentials from your most recent 20 scores. Any 9-hole scores were combined to form

an 18-hole score, which is counted as 1 score. When you log in, if you click on "Scores" from the top bar, you will see the scores used for the last revision (you can also click on the blue box that contains your Handicap Index). The lowest 8 will have an asterisk by them. If you have less than 20 scores, a table is used to determine how many handicap differentials are used (see Rule 5.2a in the Rules of Handicapping manual).

Your Handicap Index can also be affected by a Soft Cap or Hard Cap, which is a new safeguard that will keep your Handicap Index from drifting too far from your Low Handicap Index within a 12 month period.

Starting in 2020, bi-monthly revisions were replaced by daily revisions. When you enter a score or scores, your Handicap Index will update during that night's revision. If you don't enter a score that day, there is no update.

Four Ball Tournament CancelledThe First Annual Men's and Women's State Four Ball Championship to be played at Marias Valley G&CC was cancelled the week before play. A primary reason was that not enough entries were received, especially in the women's and co-ed divisions. Because it is a new tournament, we hope it draws more interest next season. The 2021 dates and site have not yet been determined.
