WHAT IS THE JOB OF A FILM DISTRIBUTOR?

A film distributor is a company or an individual

who is responsible for the

marketing/distribution of a film. The distributor

may set the release date of the film and decide

how the movie will be exhibited/made available

for viewing.

FILM 4

Film 4 (or Film Four) is a distribution company from Britain

set up in 1998. They have distributed films such as

Slumdog Millionare, East is East, This Is England and

Four weddings and a Funeral. They are owned by the

Channel Four Television Corporation and usually

advertise their own films on the Film 4 TV channel. They

are an independent company and are not going to

distribute films that contain CGI and over the top special

effects, but rather Low to Medium budget movies which

are distinctly ‘British’.

FILM 4?

I think Film 4 would be a great company to distribute my

film, they are British which means my target audience are

going to be reached easily. Also, as my film is a horror

and is low budget, they have had experience with low

budget horror movies before meaning mine is very likely

to be distributed and received well by an audience.

WARNER BROS.

Warner Bros. (Or Warner Brothers) is an American

multinational film distributor who have been active since

1923. Although they are a massive Horror film distributor,

Distributing films such as Texas Chainsaw, The

Conjuring, Annabelle and The Shining. They are one of

the big 6, a set of media companies who own the market.

They distribute all American films, with massive budgets

and loads of special effects.

WARNER BROS?

I don’t think Warner Bros. are a sutiable distribution

company for my movie. The budget they set for there

movies is extremely high compared to my low budget

film. Also, my target audience of teenage males in the UK

would not be achieved as I intended if I used an American

distribution company.

SONY PICTURES ANIMATION

Sony pictures animation is an Animation Studio based in Culver

City, California. It was formed in 2002 and has been producing

animated films such as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 1

and 2, Surf’s Up, Open Season, The Smurfs and Hotel

Transylvania. They have aims of being a high budget animation

company who specialize in producing films for ages 0 – 15.

They are a company who are owned by Sony Pictures

Entertainment and get help from Sony Pictures Imageworks.

SONY PICTURES ANIMATION?

I do not think that Sony Pictures Animation would be a very

good distribution company for my film as they do not

produce horror films and they specialize in a different

genre, Animation.
