MELTON MOWBRAY RODEO
FINE WOOL SHEARING CHAMPINIONSHIPS
Melton Mowbray rodeo Shearing competition was held 5th November 2013.
The day was a great success with 13 Novice entries consisting of Novice wool handling,
learner & intermediate shearing competitors and 22 Senior shearing competitors. We had
people Entering from all over the state from Cressy, Westbury, Oatlands, all over the
Southern Midland area and as far away as NSW .
The Crowd for the this event was more than expected for the day, at one stage there was
thought to be around 50 to 60 people coming and going through the event with a lot of city
people coming and watching the event with amazement at how we shear sheep, let alone
compete. With the event kicking off at 8:30am and eventually finishing at 6:00pm by the
time we made our way through the final events. With 6 final events and $3,500 in total prize
money plus the gifts and prizes donated to the event, there where some very satisfied
competitors for the day.
All in all the day was a great success, from the number of competitors turning up, to the
Volunteers who make this event happen. The day would not have been what it was without
the support of the Volunteers and the ongoing Support from the Farmers in the Local Area
and state supporters like Australian Wool Innovation.
Without the support from all these people from a Volunteer just helping out to rouseabout,
to a Farmer and a big organisation like AWI, without any of these people these events
wouldn’t happen and would cease to exist.
Thankyou
Simon Edwards
