High speed processingPLC systems will always require faster processing speedbecause faster processing means shorter production time,more precise control, and better quality in applications.The performance of MSP (Mitsubishi Sequence Processor)has been improved greatly over that of those in the AnA,AnU and AnS series. QnASCPUs are almost 3 times fasterthan AnUCPUs.

Large built-in memory and optionalIC cardEach QnASCPU module is equipped with a large built-inmemory in addition to approximately 30k word of internaldevice memory. Additionally, 3 types of memory cards(SRAM, SRAM+EEPROM and SRAM+Flash ROM) are avail-able, increasing the memory to allow for the followingfunctions. Global and local devicesMELSEC-QnAS offers a new concept in internal devicememory. In support of the multiple programming featuresof QnAS PLCs, each program module can be installed withits own internal memory bank called a ‘local device.’ Thedata of the local device does not influence the results ofother program modules, and conversely it is not affectedby other modules either. Local devices then can be usedfreely within program modules. At the same time, globaldevices with a common memory shared by all the programmodules are also available, and can be used forinterlocking of program modules.

Macro commandA ladder program block used frequently in a given programcan be registered as a macro command and then utilizedin any other program any number of times with differentinput and output devices. Use of this feature eliminatesretyping of the same form of ladder block and helpsstandardize programming.Pre-registered macro command libraries are also available.The macro library software SWMIVD-MSPQ/MSDQ consistsof the following macro commands: The special function module library MSPQ comprisesladder program blocks necessary for MELSEC specialfunction modules such as the RS232C interface module. The standard ladder program library MSDQ comprisesladder blocks generally required for machine controlssuch as on-delay timers and emergency stop detection.

Multiple programsUp until now, PLC programs were generally composed ofone long program which handled all tasks, but because ofPLC’s scanning operation and program size, programmingand debugging was not easy. Even utilization of apreviously made program for another control applicationwas not easy to implement.The QnAS series can handle and execute multiple programmodules. At the program design stage, program modulescan be created process by process, function by function(e.g. of a machine) or designer by designer for concurrentdesign. There are many advantages to this approach. Easier to understand because each program module canbe made for specific functions and program modules aresmaller than one long program. Program merging is not necessary after parallel design ofprogram modules by multiple designers. Easier to make standardized program modules which canbe used repeatedly for other similar projects. Saves time for program up/down loading at debuggingstage because of smaller program size.

AnSCPU Features

CompatibilityPrograms and programming software of AnSCPUs are fullycompatible with AnSHCPUs.Power supply, base units, I/O and other special functionmodules are all compatible with the new CPU modules.

CC-Link instructionsAnSHCPUs support additional CC-Link instructions. Theseinstructions will replace FROM/TO instructions used forsending and receiving remote I/O data through CC-Link,and give the added advantage of not needing to know the

High speed processingProcessing speed of AnSHCPUs is up to three or four timesfaster than their predecessors. Processing speed of a contactcommand (LD) is now 0.33µs for A1SJHCPU and A1SHCPU,0.25µs for A2SHCPU or A2SHCPU-S1, and 0.09nS forA2USH-S1CPU.

8k/14k/30k step program and built-inmemoryUp to 30k step program can be created for A2SHCPU-S1,and stored in the built-in RAM memory with battery back-up. 2k step, 8k step and 30k step EEPROM memory cassetteoptions are also available as non-volatile program storage.

Control up to 2048 I/O pointsThe number of local I/O points can be controlled, varyingfrom A1SJHCPU’s 256 points to A2SHCPU-S1’s 1024 pointswith up to three extension base units. However, total I/Opoints including remote I/O through CC-Link orMELSECNET systems is up to 2048 points for any type ofAnSHCPU.

Compact sizeHigh functionality and sequence control performance areintegrated in a compact body. Size of an AnSH PLC with 8I/O modules is 430mm (16.93 inch) × 130mm (5.12 inch) ×110mm (4.33 inch).

SFC languageIn addition to ladder and list language, AnSHCPUs can alsohandle SFC Sequential Function Chart language.For sequence control of machines, SFC language is verypowerful for standardization of program, easy design anddebugging.

A1SJHCPU integral CPU systemThe A1SJHCPU is unique in that it incorporates a CPU,power supply and base rack into a single, easy to orderpackage. The A1SJCPU is perfect for small, cost-sensitiveapplications.Although A1SJHCPU is the least expensive model of the AnSSeries, functions and performance of the model are thesame as those of A1SHCPU. In addition, all special functionmodules for A1SHCPU such as analog, positioning, andvarious network modules can be used for the A1SJHCPUsystem.

Power Supply Modules and CPU Base UnitsA1S61PN, A1S62PN, A1S63PPower SuppliesThe power supply modules are connected to the incomingpower supply and generate the DC 5V that is required bythe A1S programmable controllers. They are mounted onthe base units in the designated power supply module slot.The DC 5V generated is then passed on to the power railon the base unit. The input power supply voltage to themodule is dependent on the model selected. Input supplyvoltages available are AC 100-240V and DC 24V.Two new modules, A1S61PN and A1S62PN, were designedbased on EN61010-1 and safety aspects of IEC1131-2 tocomply with European Directives.

A1S32B, A1S33B, A1S35B, A1S38BCPU Base UnitsThe CPU base units contain one power supply, one CPUmodule and a maximum of either 2, 3, 5, or 8 single slotsize special function and I/O modules. At both ends of thebase units there is an expansion port provided forconnection to an extension base. A maximum of threeextension bases can be connected.

Onewhich allows for a power supply module, and the otherwhich does not. Selection of which type should be used isdependent on the total 5VDC current consumption madeon the power supply in the CPU base unit. If the totaldemand is lower than the output of the one power supply,then an additional power supply is not required and themore economical extension base can be used. On each endof the base units there is a connector. This is used tointerface with the CPU base unit, via an extension cable.

Compliance with the Low VoltageDirective (LVD)A1SX10EU and A1SX20EU have been specially designed tocomply with the Low Voltage Directive, a European safetyregulation. The directive requires modules of rated voltage50VAC/75VDC or higher to comply with relevant EN/IECstandards. Reinforced insulation requirements and othersafety related requirements stated on EN61010-1 andIEC1131-2 are incorporated in these modules.

Triac/SSR output modulesThe triac/SSR output modules are fast response moduleswhich have a rated switching voltage of AC 100V-240V. Anindependent common module is also available with amaximum switching current of 1A. Transistor output modulesThe transistor output modules are available for either sinkor source type output devices and can switch 12VDC and/or24VDC. Different current ratings for the transistor outputsare also available, up to a maximum switching current of2A. TTL, CMOS output moduleThe TTL, CMOS output module can be used to directly driveTTL or CMOS ICs. The operating voltage is between DC4.5V and 15V.

A1SI61 High Speed Interrupt ModuleThe A1SI61 high speed interrupt module has been designedfor machine control applications which require rapidresponse times. When an interruption signal is provided,the A1SI61 temporarily stops the sequence program fromrunning and executes an interruption program according tothe interruption vector. A1SP60 Pulse Catch ModuleThe A1SP60 is a 16 point DC 24V input module, which canbe used as a normal input module or as a pulse catchmodule. The pulse catch function of this module allowsshort input pulses with a minimum pulse width of 0.5 msecto be used in the sequence program without losing anypulse signals. When a pulse signal is input, the conditionis memorized and the module ensures that the sequenceprogram is executed using the memorized condition for atleast one scan. Inputs are set up in blocks of 4, and eachblock can be set to a normal operating function or the pulsecatch function.

Choice of cableThe MELSECNET system offers a choice of four differentvarieties of cable. These range from the low cost twistedpair cable bus to dual coaxial cable to the highly reliableGI dual fiber optic cable network.MELSECNET/B refers to the twisted pair cable bus system,while MELSECNET II to both coaxial and fiber opticsystems. The software of both systems, however, providesthe same range of functions. Loopback function (MELSECNET II only)The MELSECNET II data link system uses two parallel cableloops for connecting PLC stations, a forward (main) loopand a reverse (sub) loop. MELSEC MEDOC plus is the programming software for allMELSEC series PLCs. This software has been developed toimprove productivity of programming by incorporation ofIEC61131 standards. The requirements to PLC controlled machinery and equip-ment are becoming more sophisticated. Also, PLC programsare becoming larger and more complicated. This results ina longer time required for PLC programming. In addition,large programs are not only a problem for designers, butalso for maintenance people. A7PU handy programming unitsThe A7PU is a powerful, small programming device which canbe used to compile, monitor and edit programs. It is capable of displaying two linesof program at a time and is connected to the PLC via an RS422interface.
