Melody of Life Recipients

Caleb’s Story: “We have much to be thankful for, but the biggest thing that we can be thankful for are thoughtful people like you. Caleb is doing incredibly well. We were told when he was being discharged in September of 2012, that Caleb would never be aware of us, that he would be vegetative and that there was nothing more that could be done.”

“You folks were willing to TRY to help Caleb, and now largely because of your prayers and financial help, Caleb is gaining every day. Due to therapies that you folks have helped fund, Caleb has his vision back, he has his hearing back, he will (very slowly and deliberately) turn his eyes and head toward us when we speak to him.” – Caleb’s Father

Sam’s Story: Sam was born with half a heart. It took months after his birth before the doctors were able to find out what was causing his health problems. A routine checkup at the pediatric ended with an emergency open heart surgery. Sam underwent another open heart surgery in 2013 and will need a heart replacement before he is middle aged. Melody of Life helped pay Sam’s medical bills so his parents could concentrate on their family rather than making ends meet!

Amy’s Story: Amy became a quadriplegic after she was shot in the head while her boyfriend was cleaning his gun. Needing round the clock care, her mom quit her job while the dad still worked full time. Even with a stay at home parent, they needed nurses to come every day, which made their medical bills skyrocket even with insurance. If it wasn’t for Melody of Life Foundation, Amy would have lost her at home care and other medical needs.

Our Founder’s Story

Lucas J. Robak went to the Emergency Room in Milwaukee on May 29, 2014 after fighting to finish a speech he gave at a local networking event. His balance was off and had to use walls, chairs and whatever else he could get his hands on for balance. Weeks prior, his left leg and arm were numb, tingly, lethargic, lazy, and heavy. He was dropping his phone, keys, unable to type with his left hand and had problems dressing in the morning.

Over the course of his hospital visit, Lucas had blood drawn, a CAT scan, MRI, lumbar puncture, steroids, vitamins put into an IV, blood sugar tests and insulin shots. He stayed in a hospital room 4 nights with more than 50 blood tests to confirm his diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS).

Our Founder’s Story

After mentally and emotionally scaring himself by reading the first paragraph in Wikipedia on what MS is, Lucas began researching how people successfully live with the most debilitating neurological disorder. Over the course of the next few weeks, he diligently spoke with many different professionals in various areas and continued researching. It became very evident and unfortunate that most of the scientifically proven and doctor recommended treatment for MS is not covered by insurance.

Those few weeks transformed Melody of Life’s new purpose and vision forever.
