Technique Classes Project Classes

Correcting Mistakes with Darlene Joyce Are you tired of running into the shop every time the stitches fall off the needle? Come and learn how to correct common mistakes made while knitting. You will learn to pick up dropped stitches in stockinette, garter, and at the end of the row. The class will include exercises in dropping down pattern stitches, picking up dropped stitches, and ripping out rows of knitting and getting stitches back on the needle. Please pick up homework sheet.

Sat. July 1 1 - 3 p.m. Fee: $32 2 hour class Continental Knitting (& Purling) with Darlene Joyce Learning continental knitting, sometimes called picking, can help give you options while knitting. Some knitters find that they can knit more evenly and quickly with this method. Students will learn both knit and purl stitch. Additional practice is advised to become proficient. Sat. August 12 1 - 3 p.m. Fee: $32 2 hour class

Chunkified Retreat Shawl with Kate Joyce Learn how to make Kate’s original retreat design using su-per chunky yarn and a size US 15 needle. Tech-niques include kfb increases, double yarn overs and decreases.

Fri. July 7 to 21 1 - 3 p.m. Fee: $66 3 week class Tree by Leaf with Courtney Buckalew

An asymmetrical buttoned wrap inspired by Teva Durham’s “gestalt” knitting class, using the natural edges of the charted pattern to inform the shape of the finished garment.Exact gauge is not important, but yarn choice is crucial! Size of one finished leaf motif is given, ra-ther than sts/inch. This will work best in a lofty, super bulky

yarn where 9 sts = 4” in stockinette per the ball band. Pattern includes written instructions for one leaf, as well as a chart for the entire wrap.

Wed. July 19 & 26 1 - 3 p.m. Fee: $55 2 week class Crooked Ewe Cowl with June Sorensen (Designed by Paula Emons-Fuessle) Crooked Ewe is knitted in the round from the bot-tom up. Instructions are charted and written in a percentage checklist style which makes it easy to track your progress. You will need approximately 360 to 400 yds (329 to 366 m) of a sport weight yarn. Less yarn will yield a more shallow cowl, still perfectly fine. More yarn will yield a deeper cowl. The pattern is easily adaptable if you want to make it longer--simply add more stitch pattern repeats. The lace/texture pattern is impressive to look at and simple to work. It is easily memorized so you can focus on the beautiful color. Size is 14” deep and 34” circumference.

Thurs. July 27 7 - 9 p.m. Fee:$32 2 hour class

Shoulder Cozy with Kate Joyce Holding a fuzzy yarn with a smoother yarn, you will learn how to do an “e” cast on and knit garter stitch in the round. You will need to have a 24” circular needle in a size US 13. If you need help choosing your yarn, come a little early for class! Sun. July 30 2 - 4 p.m. Fee: $32 2 hour class Lintilla with Darlene Joyce Part of her “Hitchhiker Series”, Martina Belm describes her love for garter stitch and her design, Lintilla. “Most hand-dyed yarns look really fab in it. So I just could not resist to design another little garter stitch shawlette: Lintilla. It comes with a special long and narrow triangular, slightly asym-met- rical construction and a beautiful scalloped, subtly ruffled edge that is really fun to make.” Thurs. August 10 to 17 1 - 3 p.m. Fee: $55 2 week class Socks from the Toe Up (Turkish Toe) with Courtney Buckalew Want to make socks that fit without guessing, measuring or swatching? With the yarn of your choice, and two circular needles, Court-ney will guide you through the Turkish cast on and all the techniques needed for knitting a sock from the toe up. If the socks are for yourself, or someone who can try them on periodically as you work, there is no measuring, and minimal math! Choosing a yarn that is heavier than sock weight will let you learn all the techniques with less frustration. Fri. August 25 to September 8 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Fee: $66 3 week class
