About Melissa
As an educator, both in Higher and Secondary Educational settings, my commitment and
focus has been on the achievement of all students. Excellences in education is having the
individual student rise and not just meet their challenges but empowering them to succeed
beyond the challenges they must face. To achieve this, an educator must be committed to all
students and creating an atmosphere where teamwork and cooperation must be employed –
Together we all can achieve more.
As an administrator, I have been charged with supervising peers. Never about the idea of directing
the team as much as setting goals and empowering the team to not just reach but surpass those
goals set. Doing more with less has been my mantra in every work environment. Whether forming a
Nationally Competitive and Championship team of athletes, building a Spirit Program that increased
the recruitment and retention of students or leading teachers to employ curriculum and classroom
design to engage student learning I have set a high standard and met each goal.
At this point, I am ready for a new challenge and direction. In the next few pages I intend to
demonstrate and provide you with background information that will demonstrate my readiness for
the position of Senior Specialist, Student Success.

October 2013
January 16, 2014 Broward College 3501 Davie Rd Davie, Florida 33314 To whom it may concern: Education has been the focus of my career path. Whether in the form of curricular or co-curricular education, the development of the whole student is my primary objective. My experience in the classroom both in the secondary and higher educational settings provides me with a unique combination and outlook on the development of the total student. Understanding the complexities of the issues facing today’s student as well as the concerns and choices administrators must make to provide applicable education to all students, I believe my combined experience will enrich and promote the growth of Senior Specialist, Student Success. My experience as an administrator in higher education has provided a strong background in working efficiently with various departments, allocating not just financial accountability but time and resources in a responsible manner. Effective communication is a key component to establish cohesive relationships with both colleagues and clients. Serving on various committees, such as the campus wide Retention Committee, has allowed me to develop the tools needed to communicate and build working relationships with others as well as address campus wide needs and develop effective solutions. As an educator, I understand the complexities and the demands students face both in the secondary and collegiate environments. At the college level, I instructed students in a variety of courses, working with academic counselors and tutors with their endeavors. I transferred this experience to working with high school students and their development of executive function skills. Teaching students how they learn, along with academic monitoring has provided successful results for the students. This unique combination of experience I believe would enhance the Senior Specialist position. I would welcome the opportunity to interview with your selection team and look forward to hearing from you in the near future. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Melissa Hay
