“A series of triangular diaphragms that decrease in size about the perimeter and in surface area as they approach their relative terminating points. The diaphragmsare aligned in relation to their relative individual cantilever elements which alternate their direction, but are situated directly against each other. Within each cantilever element, the acrylic diaphragms organize 3 continuous tension strands situated at the termination of each of the diaphragm’s prongs. The tension strands are threaded through a compressive plastic sleeve whose spacing determines the distance between one diaphragm and the next; the combination of both the tension strand and its compressive sleeve allows these two elements to function as fl exural components. The system of compressive diaphragms and fl exural strands allows the individual cantilever elements to contain enough tension to allow the overall form of the system to maintain its shape as loads are applied vertically to either surface of the plane that is the structural system.” [alteration]
