WHAT IS IT?
Digital Preservation Refers to the series of managed activities necessary to ensure continued access to digital materials for as long as necessary. (DPC)
A coordinated and ongoing set of processes and activities that ensure long-term, authentic storage of digital information, facilitating access and interpretation, for the entire time span the information is required.
The process of convincing people to value said digital content in the same way that they value physical objects. To enable continued access to content over time.
To assign this value to something that is often consumed in an ephemeral way and already has an industry behind it.

CHALLENGES
Digitisation
Obsolete digital carriers
• Complexity of non-linear collections and how to preserve an interactive
experience
• Authenticity and how to ensure that future audiences know how we interacted
with the content.
• Reluctance to collect material that cannot immediately accessed – managing
expectations
Funding & Resourcing
It requires ongoing commitment
Digital objects are not preserved, they must continually be preserved.
Digital preservation is not just a technical process
