Work completed in recent months in Verdun / Sud-Ouest


• Prefabrication facilities on western jetty: 8 (of 38) footings cast.

• Drilling and concreting of caissons for western landing of new Champlain Bridge.

• Demolition of old Nun’s Island Bridge is essentially finished: completion projected for mid-April.

• First reconfiguration of Atwater Interchange: A15 South feeder.

• A15 lane width reduction and route reconfiguration between Gaétan Laberge and Atwater.

• Generally very few complaints during the period.

• Old Nun’s Island Bridge demolition: 11 complaints associated with noise from November 2015 through April 2016, but the thresholds allowed under the agreement with Infrastructure Canada were never exceeded.

• A15 route reconfiguration: no incidents.

Air Quality Management

• No expected impact on sensitive areas

• Monitoring, mainly for demolition activities • Dust blanketing using water cannons • Use of dust control liquid.

Light Management

• Problem essentially limited to site trailers and parking on western jetty: largest worksite facilities for the project are near the Pointe-Nord on Nun’s Island

• Two areas impacted: Evolo 2: adjustments made René Lévesque Blvd. (toward Pointe-Nord): new challenge

• Human health and safety imperative and operational

security.


Vibration Management

• Continuous seismographic monitoring: an alert is received if the 25mm/s criterion is exceeded; adjustments are then made to work methods in order to remain within the criterion.

• The 25 mm/s criterion is based on a low probability of cosmetic damage (e.g., cracks in gypsum) and is recognized by the MTQ for residential buildings.

• Protective cushions are used to dampen debris impact shocks during

demolition.

• Visual assessment prior to construction and re-assessment afterwards.

SSL • West jetty site luminosity: adjustments made. • Possibility of having a noise abatement wall between Sud-Ouest and the railroad: acoustic

analysis is ongoing. • Removal of buildings from May St. and the effect on neighbourhood tranquility, plus

concerns expressed with regard to bringing the A15 closer to the Poudrière sector: Temporary noise abatement walls will be installed between LaSalle and Wellington Permanent noise abatement walls to be erected later.

INFC • Environmental compensation for the project as a whole (i.e. GGs: discussions ongoing • Possibility of a 4th lane on the Nun’s Island Bridge linking Nun’s Island to Verdun:

discussions ongoing. • Conversion of temporary Nun’s Island Bridge into park: under review.
