4. Discussion Items:

i. Name change of USA: The survey collected during the student

life quarterly meeting, and from the USA team shows that the student leaders feel a need of changing the name “USA”. The team proposes to change the name to Student Government.

ii. Updates on committees _ Bylaws committee: Bylaws and Constitution: + The Bylaws Revision voting: Tysen Hillquist made the motion to pass the 2011-2012 USA bylaws Dante Obcena seconded it. Anonymous vote + The Constitution voting: Jenny made the motion to pass the 2011-2012 USA Constitution Mawada seconded it Anonymous vote _ Budget committee: Details in the spreadsheet. The budget proposal for next year should be finalized during the meeting. _ Election committee: The election materials would be sent out this week for calibration. There would be two information sessions on March 6 1:30pm to 2:15pm and March 7 11am – 12pm

5. Verbal Reports: a. President – Dante Obcena:

i. Teach-in Day b. Vice President and Legislative Liaison: Tysen Hillquist

i. Bus stop report: Great turnout. The team got about 50 people to sign the petition.

ii. Google number: Tysen cannot find a 206- number. It might be the case that Tysen needs to register a new Google account and get a 206- number.

iii. Civic Week:

c. Issues and Concern Officer – Kosal Sieng i. QR codes: Kosal recommends having QR codes on the flyers for every event.

These codes are free to create, and the students can use a smart phone to scan the code, and it would link to the event’s page.

ii. Microwaves: Kosal has contacted Mary Gaston – the person in charge of all the microwaves on campus. Two new microwaves are coming, but Mary complains

about the student misusing, and mistreating school properties (the microwaves, etc.)

iii. Spring dance flyers: Kosal had done a couple flyers, and would bring them to the

recap on Friday

iv. Textbook wall: The textbook is redecorated last Friday.

v. Brochures: Brochures about “how to…” to inform students of general services on campus.

d. Treasurer – My Linh Hoang: i. Report on UT Fee Meeting

ii. Budget Proposal: Details in the spreadsheet.

Some things to add: items: photo frame, video cameras citing the projects for each position

iii. Mid-year Report: Each USA member should come up with a fairly detailed list of

what they have done for the USA, and the students (events, workshop, shows, etc.), and of how they have used the money.

e. Marketing Officer – Mawada Hamam: i. Outreach

ii. USA Brochure iii. Safety Committee meeting last Wednesday updates

f. Communications Officer – Vivian Nguyen: i. Election materials: The revised versions of the information packet, and the

application packet would be sent out no later than Saturday, Feb 25 g. Social Activities Officer – Po-Han Chen:

i. Talent show Report: Po-han would type a detailed report and present it at the Friday Recap

h. Community Service Officer – Jenny Nguyen: i. Updates on Blood Drive: 36 people went to donate, and 22 were able to donate

blood.

ii. Updates on UT quarterly meeting:

iii. Community Services for spring quarter: beside of usual community services like planning trees, donating blood, or serving food, the big shot of spring quarter would be the USA Appreciation Day on Friday, June 1st. This would be an opportunity to introduce the new USA team to students

iv. Computer Usage: it’s a reminder for people using computers in the office: don’t

shut down the computers, just log off. i. Advisor Monica Lundberg:

Linh)

United Student Association 2011-12 Goals

1. To continue advocating for students with basic needs through: - EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer Card Program – public assistance for food) for campus use - Student transportation issues (King County Bus service & student bus pass); parking lot issues

2. To foster a college climate of academic success by advocating for:

- The new Cafeteria study space - Student-to-student peer mentoring program - Materials which describe student support assistance (computer lab, tutor hours)

3. To increase student engagement with campus events and civic duties

- Monitor and increase class attendance at SL & DR campus events with faculty partnerships & recognize faculty participation

- Recognize volunteer service (initiate President’s Volunteer Service Award) - Increase participation in student government activities, including student

government elections - Increase participation in legislative and civic causes (voter registration, local

and national election) 4. To assure the inclusion of all student populations in data gathering & USA
