A visit to Osek
From 23 to 29 June 2015 our teams met in Osek and were led on a tour to some of the best historic and tourist sites of Czech Republic.
We saw part of the artistic heritage of the country
We lived for a week in an ancient monastery with an oustanding cathedral and precious works of art.
Bohemia
The monastery has a millennium old history and is in some way at the centre of so many important events in the European past.

A tour in the school
The school in Osek is a single institution managing two school buildings for the education grades going from Nursery School to Middle School.
The main building has two gyms, laboratories and a canteen, that is also open to the population outside the school at certain times.
Mostly the education system in this country seems to have the same challenges ours has in modern controversial times. The introduction of more comprehensive education paths that include and recognize students with special needs has posed the same problems and defies everywhere. During the visit this aspect too was discussed.

HISTORY OF THE CASTLE
Karlštejn castle has an unique position among Czech castles. It was founded in 1348 by the Czech King and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV as a place for safekeeping of royal treasures, especially Charles' collection of holy relics and the coronation jewels of the Roman Empire. The first documented stay of Charles IV. in the castle was in 1355 when he came to supervise the building works as well as the decoration of interiors, particularly of the castle chapels. The construction of the castle was finished in 1365 by the consecration of the Chapel of the Holy Cross situated in the Great tower. Karlstejn Fortress

In this town particularly interesting was Strekov Castle, on the top of a cliff on River Elbe, built in the 14th century to protect the waterway and collect duties.
We also visited the centre and the local mall
