Meeting Goals :
– To help parents understand the New Process for Course
Requests for the 2018-2019 School Year. In addition,
information will be shared regarding graduation requirements,
GAFutures.org (formerly GAcollege411.org), and the Georgia
Milestones Assessment.
ADMINISTRATION TEAM

• Progress Reports are given to the students at 4.5 weeks, 9 weeks,
and 13.5 weeks each semester during homeroom.

1. PSAT - 10th graders are given the PSAT in October at no charge. 9th and 11th graders pay
for the test (approximately $16). It is given during the school day.

• We have 4 levels in most core classes: College Prep, Accelerated/Gifted, and AP/Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment – Post Secondary Option (PSO).
• Finance Academy, Mass Communication Academy, and Journalism, are available in the 11th and 12th grade by application.
• Work Based Learning and Cross Keys Technical Center are additional options.

Eligibility Recommendations to Exempt One Unit of Physical Education The county will provide a verification form to all principals to give to coaches and sponsors at the
beginning of each semester. Coaches or sponsors will verify student’s participation by signing the PE Exemption Student Log. The coach/sponsor will compile a master list of all students who should receive exemptions. This master list will be submitted to the principal for approval. Verification forms must be submitted to counselors at the end of each semester in order to have
them posted on the students’ transcripts (see chart). Criteria to Exempt One Unit of Physical Education:
Verified units will be granted using the following criteria: 135 practice or activity hours will be required to exempt 1 Carnegie unit of PE 65 practice or activity hours will be required to exempt ½ Carnegie of PE Activity hours will only be accepted for DeKalb County School System sponsored activities One unit may be exempted through validated full-year participation in school sponsored athletics,
marching band, dance and/or JROTC, etc. A student who validates full-year participation in these school-sponsored activities may substitute one unit of credit in any other elective area for the second unit of Physical Education (Board Policy)
Non state-funded courses/activities must have approved documentation Team Sports do not earn Carnegie Units and shall not be included in student’s schedule Procedure for Approval of Additional Activities to Exempt One Unit of Physical Education Schools must submit a request in writing to Jennifer J. Powell, Health and Physical Education
Coordinator, for approval for any additional activities.
